The Champion • Wednesday 19 June 2013Eve has her first bookpublished at age of 92Memoir recounts her life growing up in LiverpoolKVisit us @ www.ChampNews.com • 3Report by Henry JamesSHE has written all her life and someof her poems have been printed inmagazines – and now Skelmersdalewoman Eve Fletcher has had her firstbook published at the age of 92.The book is called Lucky – Memoirsof a Liverpool Lass Growing Up in the1900s, and is a personal reflection onher life.In the book Eve recounts her lifegrowing up in the city. It includes thestruggle of growing up in theDepression when families had to selltheir homes and move in withrelatives.Eve’s granddaughter Melaniepersuaded her to write the book as shewanted her young daughter Olivia,and future generations, to know whatlife was like in the 1920s and 30s.It is a period when there were gaslamps in the streets and outsidetoilets, but Eve also mentions thefamous indomitable Liverpool spirit,which is still present today.Eve’s book also tells about her timedriving an ambulance for the CivilDefence Ambulance Service duringthe Second World War while herhusband, John, was in the Royal AirForce.A family member told TheChampion: “We take a lot for grantedFamily evicted in council flat rowFrom page 1five years but all of my paperworkhas been destroyed.“He also claims he has not been toldwhere his belongings are.“I spent 30 years collecting mytools. My late granddad gave me thetrolley jack as a present to getstarted when I began training to bea mechanic at 15.“I was made unemployed last yearbut I was hoping to get back on myfeet and start working again. Mumhas written all her life and to have herfirst book published at the age of 92 isa great achievement.”Eve and, John, also 92, have threechildren, eight grandchildren, 18A spokesman for West LancashireBorough Council said: “InNovember, 2012, the keys to theaddress on Fairlie were returned tothe council by a neighbour.“Investigations commenced to tryto determine the whereabouts ofthe tenant and a legally valid 28 day‘Notice to Quit’ was served at theproperty on 19 November.“As the tenant failed to contact thecouncil during the notice period theproperty was repossessed on 17December 2012. There is no recordof Mr McCarthy having let thecouncil know of his intention to be1116170great grandchildren and one greatgreat grandson.
