Attendance: There is a strong correlation between class attendance and college success. Yourclass involvement enables you to learn more actively and effectively; therefore, class attendanceis essential and mandatory. Your attendance counts as a participation grade.Student Accountability:The student will keep a record of attendance and assignments as directed by theinstructor.Withdrawals and Drops:Never attending or ceasing to attend classes DOES NOT constitute a withdrawal ordrop. The instructor should be notified if a student is planning to drop or not attend class. You remain registered until you file a Drop/Withdrawal Form at the Registrar's Office by theappropriate deadlines. Failure to act in a timely manner will result in an "F" grade for the course. It is the student's responsibility to turn in all Drop/Withdrawal Forms and follow up to ensurethat they were processed as desired.Instructor-Initiated Drop:Absences, disruptive behavior, dishonesty, and violating LSC-O policy could result in aninstructor initiated drop.Academic Honesty:LSCO will not tolerate cheating or plagiarism. Plagiarism is defined as "taking and usingas one's own the writings or ideas of another." Any student caught cheating or plagiarizing, oraiding another student in cheating or plagiarizing on a quiz, test, individual assignment, orexamination will be automatically dropped with an “F”.Students subject to penalty due to academic dishonesty have the right to appeal to thedepartment chair and eventually to the dean and/or academic vice president before imposition ofthe penalty.Student with Disabilities:A request for special accommodations must be made through the ADA Counselor and theappropriate form submitted to the instructor two weeks in advance of need. Any student with averifiable learning or physical disability who requires special accommodations is encouraged tospeak to the instructor in private regarding his/her special accommodations need.Children in the Classroom:The LSCO Student Handbook specifies that no children under the age of 15 are allowedin the classroom or the hallways.Syllabus Content:The instructor reserves the right to make changes to this syllabus, if deemed necessary. All changes will be provided to the students orally or in writing before the implementation of thechange.

Routines, Procedures and Responsibilities:1. Attendance will be credited as a participation grade. Sign in at the beginning of eachclass.2. A portfolio (binder) of student ideas, information and work will be created at thedirection of the instructor.3. A daily journal will be kept by each student in the portfolio.4. An account of assignments and attendance will be kept on the “Apples” document andkept in the portfolio binder.5. Students are expected to be in class on time, sign in, have “Apples” out and ready tocheck, then begin an assignment listed on the board.6. Students are rewarded for reading and summarizing content information in the text orhandouts. If done in the proper format, completed on time and documented by theinstructor, students may use these notes and summaries during testing.7. Students are required to take on-line quizzes after reading content chapters assigned. These quizzes must be turned in on time, then collected into a portfolio of work. Latequizzes (by 1 class period) may not receive a grade higher than a 75. Quizzes more thanone class day late, will receive a zero.8. All students are to attend observation orientation and may not go to their observation sitesuntil permission is granted by the Education Division Chair and a background check iscomplete.9. 15 hours of observations are completed and documented in an Observation Workbook. Itis recommended that students take observation notes in their spiral notebooks and lateruse word processing to put them in final format (calibri 12 or 14).
