Girl Scouts Global Arms of AdvocacyGirl Scouts San Diego is entering our 5 th year in aground-breaking national pilot program where girlslearn about HIV/AIDS and other contemporary issuesacross the globe, then use their leadership skills topublically advocate and enact change within theircommunity. Participants come from all over thecounty and quickly turn into family as theycourageously take steps to tackle these pandemics.Girls must be prepared to make at least a 1-yearcommitment to the group, attend monthly meetingsand occasionally participate in planning and eventsoutside of scheduled meetings. Group members will have speaking and travel opportunities.Grade: Registered Girl Scouts entering grades 9-12Dates: Sundays: October 14, November 11, December 9,January 13, February10, March 10, April 14, May 12, May 23Time: 2:30-5:00 p.m., although some meetings may varyLocation: Balboa Program Center, Leadership CenterFee: Free!Why apply? Girls involved in Global Arms of Advocacy have: pursued Gold Awards and college paths based on their work in this group engaged in a week-long private retreat and training seminar in New York created themed art pieces that are publically displayed at San Diego events interacted with lively guest speakers from various community organizations presented workshops to their peers and fellow students attended an international United Nations Conference in New York City as youth delegates received a private lab tour of UCSD’s AIDS Research Institute from a world renowneddoctor and expert in the field.What girls are saying: “This advocacy group has empowered me to empower others.” “You will make lifelong friends, learn amazing new skills, form a million inside jokes andbecome an effective leader and peer educator.” “I’ve changed so much as a person and learned that even small things can make a bigdifference.” “Global Arms of Advocacy has introduced me to some of my best friends!”How to apply:Please fill out the attached application and submit to Genevieve Lopez byFriday, September 21st.
