In some areas,the term “Persian wheel” refers to any water lifting wheel device whichis animal powered.However, as most commonly used, the Perisan wheel isa variation of the chain pump-- another name to which it is also referred.I-z consists of a series of containers (e.g., buckets, pots, bags) attachedto two parallel loops of rope or chain which pass over a driving wheel,as in Figure 3.20. As the buckets pass over the open-rim wheel, theyempty into a trough below it and then return down to the water supply forrefilling.
