Some thoughts from Year 7 CampersOn Thursday the 31 st of March many of the IMP students woke up early to go to IMP camp. After along bus ride, we finally arrived at Merroo Christian Conference Centre and started unloading thegear from the truck. For the rest of the day, we got to know our way around the camp site. Wepracticed in rehearsals and had afternoon tea and dinner. We also had night time activitiesincluding real life Cluedo and other group games we all enjoyed. The next morning we cracked April fools jokes on each other but after breakfast on Wind Band’sfirst rehearsal for the day, we really did get a fright. Our wonderful conductor, Liz Scott, pretended(at least I thought she was) to be in a bad mood. She decided to throw George’s clarinet across thehall where it shattered into pieces. Turned out the clarinet was already broken and was just blutackedback together. The rest of the day carried out as normal with rehearsals and meals. At nightwe had performances from small groups such as the clarinet ensemble then more night timeactivities. With free time we talked and when it came to bed-time no one could get to sleep due tolots of talking.Saturday rehearsals carried out without the clarinet breaking and by Sunday it was time for theconcert. Parents arrived to watch our performance and take us home. After all that practice, it feltgreat to be able to perform the pieces we had rehearsed. We then rode home feeling immenselytired. It didn’t seem right that the next day was school. Thanks to our conductors, teachers andparents for coming to the camp with us and helping out. Imp camp was great. Will Anthony 7OIt was fun sleeping in the same room with your friends! The view was cool and the practices werefun, especially the BIG April-fools prank that Liz did on one of the bands! I'll definitely go back nextyear!Sylvia Hu 7RNight was usually when the fun started. After dinner, we would have mini concerts and thengames, before finally having supper. The first night didn’t consist of many performances but theitem performed by some of the Yr11 boys inspired people for other nights. In fact, everyone stoodup to cheer and clap them and it lasted quite a while. Some of the performances were comedy likethe acting and playing of the Clarinet Ensemble’s ‘When the saints go marching in’ and they kepteveryone in high spirits for the following games. On the last night, the Chamber Trumpet Ensemble(which I was in) played “Fantasia Basilieira Movement ii” along with other Ensembles and groupsplaying the pieces they worked on. After playing such a fast, racing, varied pitching piece I was firedup for the night’s massive game of Cluedo, organised by the Yr 11’s. The killer was Little Red RidingHood at the swimming pool gate with the weapon being “The Macarena”. The theory was thatsomeone came, she danced the Macarena to make them dizzy and when they jumped into thepool, they drowned and died. Altogether it was a fun experience.James Merlo 7RFor sale: Alex Steinbach upright piano, Artiste model, 8 years old and in excellent condition.Includes piano stool.
