Kabashi & Krasniqi Geometric elements and existing state of thechannelThe shape of the channel is an ellipse form with aheight of ~ 1.20 m. The carrying capacity of thechannel, with these dimensions, cannotwithstand the design capacity. The impact ofloads has caused very big cracks as can be seen inthe picture above. Some segments are heavily tocompletely damaged from the lateral and aboveload as a result of the impact of slope dirt to thechannel itself. Sources of grave concern were anumber of segments where joints were notfunctioning due to considerable displacement ofthe slabs. The channel was built in 1939, whenthe inside surface was plastered manually.Mainly the constituent materials such aggregateused directly by stream of river Drini i Bardhewhich is crushed in several pieces during theflowing. We can see that there are many coarseaggregate or pieces of gravel in big dimensions, and variety of aggregate. The cement of that timedid not have any high quality technology but itplayed its bending between the aggregate. The most adverse elements are the cracks, respectively the division the slabs from the wall, which causes loss of water or make itdysfunctional. This assessment state is done toevaluate and to undertake the following steps. Assessment of current state andrecommendationsThe water channel in current conditions is out ofuse, but the level of damages is not the same intotal length. In this sense, they were divided inthree parts, such as:- Severe level damage that cannot be repaired- Severe damage but reparable- Medium level and reparable damageSince damages of first part, which cannot berepaired is not the objective of our study, weanalyzed the reparable parts of the channel, followed by adequate recommendations.a/ second partSince the damages are smaller and the cracks arerarer in channel’s surface taking intoconsideration the existing conditions it wasrecommended to repair them by undertakingthese activities:- Removing damaged parts, i.e. non qualityconcrete- Cleaning the surface- Injecting the cracks in considerable depth- Water stopping from flowing in place where arethe water loss- Repairing the channel surface with polymermaterialsb/ third partWe deal with damages that do not express anyserious problem, with cracks present eventhough to a smaller extent. In this part thefollowing activities were undertaken:- Injecting in certain places in deeper distance- Repairing the surface with polymer basedmaterials1b. The behavior of concrete as a materialduring the stages of use in the second structures Characteristics of Water Tank in PodujevaThe destination of this water tank is to supplywater to the town of Podujeva with 120000citizens. This tank has been used without beingmaintenance, therefore the impact of loadscaused cracks which started to grow with timeand caused the major water loss. This was thereason of increased water reduction in this town. The conditions of the structure in the time it wasemptied for assessment, and the state are givenin the following photos.338AKTET Vol. IV, Nr 1, 2011
