Reproductive Health and Safety Education Parent LetterAugust 25, <strong>2011</strong>Dear Parents and Guardians:According to G.S. 115C-81 (e1), each year before students participate in reproductivehealth and safety education or other separate instruction on the prevention <strong>of</strong> sexuallytransmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS, or the avoidance <strong>of</strong> out-<strong>of</strong> wedlock pregnancy,parents must be notified <strong>of</strong> the opportunity to review the materials and objectives that will beused in instruction.Please receive this letter as <strong>of</strong>ficial notice that beginning on the first day <strong>of</strong> school, allmaterials will be available for sixty (60) days in the school’s library.Parents may withhold or withdraw consent for their child’s participation in allreproductive health and safety education instruction or in specific topics such as sexuallytransmitted diseases, the effectiveness and safety <strong>of</strong> contraceptive methods, and awareness <strong>of</strong>sexual assault and sexual abuse.
