Any person onschool sites in the <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Robeson</strong> <strong>County</strong> may be required to submit to a metaldetector scan and to a personal search, if necessary. Bags and parcels may also be searchedby means <strong>of</strong> metal detecting devices, by personal inspection or otherwise.Persons entering school buildings or entering athletic facilities may be scanned inaccordance with Board <strong>of</strong> Education policy. Refusal to submit to a personal search willresult in the denial <strong>of</strong> entry, and for students, may result in disciplinary action includingsuspension from school.School Bus Conduct and SafetyWe know that you share our concern for the safety <strong>of</strong> every student who rides a school bus.We ask you to impress upon your child that is absolutely necessary to follow the rules andobey the bus driver.Responsibilities <strong>of</strong> <strong>Student</strong>s• Obey the bus driver promptly concerning conduct on the bus• Observe classroom conduct, except for ordinary conversation, while getting on and<strong>of</strong>f, and while riding on the school bus.• Distracting objects such as knives, chains, sticks, rocks, etc. are not allowed on theschool bus.• Be at the place designated both morning and afternoon ready to board the bus at thedesignated time.• The driver is responsible for maintaining a schedule and cannot wait for tardy pupils.• Help keep the bus clean, sanitary, and orderly and refrain from damaging or abusingthe cushions or other bus equipment. <strong>Student</strong>s will be required to pay for damages.• Eating is not permitted on the school bus.• In case <strong>of</strong> emergency, ask the driver to stop the bus.• The use <strong>of</strong> drugs, alcohol, tobacco and pr<strong>of</strong>ane language is absolutely prohibited.• <strong>Student</strong>s are not permitted to use recording devices and radios on the buses.• <strong>Student</strong>s are to sit in their assigned seats.• <strong>Student</strong>s should not yell, scream, spit, etc. or throw objects from the Windows.• <strong>Student</strong>s should remain seated at all times.Safety RulesStay <strong>of</strong>f the roadway while waiting for the bus.Wait until the bus has come to a complete stop before attempting to get on or <strong>of</strong>fLeave the bus only with the consent <strong>of</strong> the driver.Enter or leave the bus only by the front door, except in case <strong>of</strong> emergency.Do not lean out <strong>of</strong> windows. Keep head and hands inside the bus.Make sure the bus is stopped, the door is open and stop signal is out.Look both ways and do not run across the street or road.19
