Bring your little buds for a sneak peek at what spring brings! Join<br />

our guided walk through the <strong>Gardens</strong> to view early bloomers as<br />

they delight in the timely change of seasons. all ages.<br />

A Tree-Mendous Celebration!<br />

You’re invited to an <strong>Old</strong> <strong>Westbury</strong> <strong>Gardens</strong> Tree-Mendous celebration<br />

honoring one of nature’s grandest treasures—the tree!<br />

Spend a fun filled day learning all about this natural contributor.<br />

Highlights include the basics of tree biology, how trees influence<br />

our everyday lives, crafts, plant giveaways and more! all ages.<br />

Recycling Initiative<br />

Help stop more than 61,000 pounds of crayons from going into<br />

landfills annually and support the Crazy Crayons Initiative,<br />

which recycles old crayons into new ones. arrive early and receive<br />

one free admission (child or adult) when you donate a box<br />

of used crayons (Crayola or other american brand only).<br />

Discover the “ins and outs” of trees with<br />

volunteer docent Gene Lazaro. .<br />

Celebrate Mother Nature’s gentle touch this Mother’s Day.<br />

Through hands-on investigations, junior herbalists learn the<br />

healing powers of plant fragrance. Children will use sensory<br />

skills to craft three unique tub teas for Mom combining dried<br />

flower petals and herbs in oversized bath bags. This is an all<br />

weather indoor event. ages 6–12.<br />

Garden Explorers<br />

Through fun and creative activities, children will learn about the<br />

local Long Island ecology. Session I (6 classes, May- June) will<br />

focus on environmental conservation and sustainability. The<br />

program is designed for ages 6-12. Each class includes a lesson, a<br />

hike, and other educational activities.<br />

Fridays, May 18–June 22, 4–5PM<br />

$10 per class /$5 member. all 6 classes $50/$25 member. advance<br />

registration required.<br />

Garden Fairy Tales<br />

Help us find the fairies that have proven longstanding residents<br />

of <strong>Old</strong> <strong>Westbury</strong> <strong>Gardens</strong> for over 100 years! The Flower Fairies<br />

of the Summer by Cicely Mary Barker guides us on our journey<br />

to seek out fairy habitats amidst the magic of summer blooms.<br />

Children gather natural elements along the way to construct<br />

their own ethereal fairy home beside our East Lake Trail. all<br />

ages.<br />

“Are You Stronger Than a<br />

Rose Gardener”<br />

Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day and the Let’s Move Initiative<br />

while discovering if you’ve got what it takes to be our next<br />

Gardener Stars! This event cleverly sneaks fitness into fun and<br />

emphasizes the strengthening benefits of everyday gardening<br />

through relays, races, and quiz questions. are you up to the challenge?<br />

ages 6–12.<br />

Choose Your Own Adventure!<br />

Collect a Choose Your Own Adventure book at the green ticket<br />

booth to create a Garden quest all your own. Follow pages to spy<br />

new areas of the <strong>Gardens</strong> not usually seen by the general public.<br />

What’s your adventure? You decide!<br />
