<strong>Judson</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Athletics</strong> ... On the Rise!more season records fall in 3rdseason under rich benjaminImproving upon the 30 wins from the 2009 season,the <strong>Judson</strong> <strong>University</strong> baseball team claimed 39 winsin the 2010 season to surpass the broken record fromthe year before. It is the first time in the history of theprogram to have back-to-back 30-win seasons and toalso play baseball in February.<strong>Judson</strong> broke the February status for playing baseballas they opened up the season on February 15thagainst Clarke College at the Metrodome in Minneapolis,Minnesota. <strong>Judson</strong> had a four-game seriesand went 1-3. <strong>Judson</strong> then went on to play four moregames in February to make a total of eight.On their annual spring trip to the south, <strong>Judson</strong> playedeight games in Tennessee and went 6-2. In those sixwins, one came against #11 Tennessee Wesleyan,14-10.It was not until May 5th that <strong>Judson</strong> broke the 2009record for wins when they posted a 14-4 win overPurdue-North Central. They finished the three-gamesweep the following day for their 32nd and 33rd winsof the year. <strong>Judson</strong> finished the year with 20 CCACwins to tie the program record set in 2009.NAIA National pollFor the first time in the history of the program, <strong>Judson</strong><strong>University</strong> received votes in the NAIA NationalPoll. <strong>Judson</strong> received votes in three different polls onMarch 30th (1), April 6th (12), and April 20th (4). Themost votes received were on April 6th with 12.NCCAA World seriesNCCAA Regional ChampionsFor the third time in the history of the program, <strong>Judson</strong><strong>University</strong> advanced to the NCCAA World Series bywinning the NCCAA North Central Regional Championship.<strong>Judson</strong> received a #4 seed in the NCCAAWorld Series and won the regional with a series winover Olivet Nazarene. In a three-game series for thechampionship, <strong>Judson</strong> won games one and three forthe automatic bid. <strong>Judson</strong> took game one, 3-2, andthen won game three, 6-2, in Bourbonnais, IL. At theNCCAA World Series, <strong>Judson</strong> fell to Spring Arbor,5-2, and Kings College, 11-1.single season Team recordsIt was another great offensive season for <strong>Judson</strong><strong>University</strong> as they broke 10 offensive records andone pitching record. Seven of the 10 records brokenwere from the 2009 season. The records brokenwere wins (39), batting average (.331), hits (613), atbats (1,852), runs (426), RBI (382), doubles (127),triples (35), home runs (34), and walks (230). Theyalso broke the single season record for inningspitched at 438.six individual single seasonrecords tied or brokenFour players for <strong>Judson</strong> either tied or broke individualseason records in 2010. Johnny Amannand Nick Krisman each are in two categories.Amann broke Brett Ehrlich’s record of 178 atbats in 2009 with 185 and then tied the recordfor triples at seven set by Matt McHenry in 2009.Krisman tied the record for most wins in a season(8) with Jon Hanchett from the 1973 season andthen broke Hanchett’s record for fewest walks allowedin a season to innings pitched (14/86 IP).Andrew Parsill tied the RBI record of 49 set byRyan Koerner in 2002. Zach Liebmann claimedthe winning percentage record with a 6-1 record(.857)Career records brokenThree players saw their careers end at <strong>Judson</strong> in2010 atop the records book. Zach Williams finishedwith 11 career triples to tie Jesus Castro’srecord. Heath Groves broke the career recordfor winning percentage at .700 (7-3). Ed Draperfinished off with 12 career saves for the most inprogram history.new players impactThe 2010 season marked a season of new playersin Rich Benjamin’s third year as coach. Benjaminbrought in 20 new players. The impact ofthe players set the tone for the upcoming 2011season. These players broke into several <strong>Judson</strong>top 10 categories for single season records.Eight players are now in the top 10 for singleseason records at <strong>Judson</strong>. Johnny Amann leadsthe way as he is in seven categories and holdstwo season records for triples and at bats. NateRohl follows in five categories with his highest inthird in doubles. Brian Brauer and Andrew Parsillare both in four categories as Brauer’s highest issecond in RBI and Parsill tied the record for RBI.Levi Pippenger and Nick Krisman are each inthree categories as Pippenger’s highest is fourthin RBI and Krisman owns two records for winsand fewest walks allowed in innings pitched.Both Mitch Smith and Zach Liebmann are in twopitching categories. Smith is second in fewestwalks allowed while Liebmann has the best winningpercentage in a season.ccac awardsThree players were honored with CCAC awardsas two were on All-CCAC teams. Johnny Amannwas voted the CCAC Freshman of the Yearand is the second player in three years to receivethat award under Rich Benjamin. MattMcHenry was then on the All-CCAC first-teamand Nate Rohl was an All-CCAC honorablemention selection. Two players earned CCACPlayer of the Week awards in Mitch Smith andLevi Pippenger.nccaa awardsPicking up several awards in the NCCAA regionallevel, <strong>Judson</strong> had five players and acoach honored. Rich Benjamin was voted theco-Coach of the Year for the region. GainingNCCAA All-Region first-team honors wereJohnny Amann, Ed Draper, and Nick Krisman.Matt McHenry and Levi Pippenger were bothon the NCCAA All-Region honorable mentionteam.Academic awardsBoth Hunter Groves and Ed Draper led theteam in academics. Both players were namedNCCAA scholar-athletes and were on theCCAC All-Academic team.ccac stats<strong>Judson</strong> had eight players in the top 10 ofseveral CCAC statistics. Ed Draper led theCCAC in appearances (25) and saves (10)while Zach Liebmann led the CCAC in shutouts(2). They were the only two players tolead the CCAC. Nate Rohl finished in four differentcategories as he was fourth in on-basepercentage, fifth in doubles, eighth in sluggingpercentage, and ninth in total bases. JohnnyAmann was third in triples, sixth in walks, andninth in total bases. Nick Krisman finishedsixth in wins, innings pitched, and gamesstarted. Andrew Parsill was ninth in RBI whileBrian Brauer and Zach Williams were sixth intriples.naia statsIn the NAIA top 25, <strong>Judson</strong> had three playersreach the top 20 for their play. Ed Draperwas ranked the highest as he was sixth in thenation for saves (10). Mitch Smith was 17thfor walks allowed per nine innings and 20thfor walks allowed. Johnny Amann was 18th intriples with seven.
