Rev. 2009]Constitution of Kenya 7THE CONSTITUTION OF KENYACHAPTER 1THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA1. Kenya is a sovereign Republic.1A. The Republic of Kenya shall be a multiparty democraticstate.2. The Public Seal of Kenya shall be such device as may beprescribed by or under an Act of Parliament.5 of 1969, 2nd Sch.,2 of 1974, 1 of 1975,14 of 1975, 13 of 1977,1 of 1979, 5 of 1979,7 of 1982, 7 of 1984,6 of 1985, 14 of 1986,20 of 1987, 4 of 1988,17 of 1990, 10 of 1991,12 of 1991, 6 of 1992,9 of 1997, 3 of 1999,L.N. 6/ 2006,3 of 2008,10 of 2008Declaration ofRepublic.Political system.9 of 1997, s. 2.Public Seal.2A. This Constitution is the Constitution of the Republic of Kenyaand shall have the force of law throughout Kenya and, subject tosection 47, if any other law is inconsistent with this Constitution, thisConstitution shall prevail and the other law shall, to the extent of theinconsistency, be void-Provided that the provisions of this section as to consistency withthis Constitution shall not apply in respect of an Act made pursuant toto section 15A(3).Constitution ofRepublic of Kenya.3 of 2008CHAPTER IITHE EXECUTIVEPART ITHE PRESIDENT AND THE VICE-PRESIDENT4.
