Upcoming TripSolo Travelers Love Life and Price on Uniworld River CruisesFor many Americans, the thought of traveling alone canbe a little frightening and expensive since most cruise linesand tour operators base pricing on double occupancywith singles paying more.Uniworld Boutique River Cruises, AAA’s Travel Partner offeringdiscounts to AAA members, made a policy decision tofocus on solo travelers.“The ships are small, making it easy for solo travelers to meetothers,” said Nancy Logan, director of national accounts forUniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection. “Meals are openseating allowing guests to sit with whomever they like.”“On a Uniworld ship solo travelers receive the same sizestateroom without added cost,” said Logan. “The waivedsingle supplement, on select sailings, is also a great programfor those that may be traveling, as part of a group but don’thave or want a roommate.”Add in the feeling of safetyand security that comes fromknowing that even though youare traveling alone, you are stillpart of a “group” and have peoplewatching out for you. Such wasthe case on my recent outing onUniworld. Departing from Chalonsur Saone onboard the RiverRoyale for Uniworld’s Burgundy andProvence itinerary, I was fortunateto meet several people of diverseage and background travelingindependently.Come Experience aUniworld River Cruise!Tulips & Windmills – The NetherlandsApril 3-13, 2012Antwerp to Amsterdamaboard the River DuchessFor more details, call 1-855-862-6651Chris, a single doctor who is on staff at OSU Hospital andin his fifties said “I didn’t know anything about Uniworld orriver cruising. All I saw was that here was a company whowouldn’t charge me double for traveling alone.” And onceon board he became the hit of the lounge each night, taking turns spinning the ladies around the dance floor. In between dancing, enjoying the included excursionsand wonderful food and wine, Chris also made a point oflooking out for Helen, a delightful 80-year-old lady fromKent, England who also was traveling alone.“This is my fifth river cruise and my second with Uniworld,”Helen said. “I had tried some other companies beforefinding this gem. I will only travel with Uniworld when itcomes to river cruising.” she said.A perfect blend of elegance and comfort, our ship wascasual yet plush. Uniworld ships offer a unique ambianceand class all their own. All of the interior design is handeddown from sister company RedCarnation Hotels, which transformsthese ships into floating, boutiquehotels from which you can baseyour explorations of the day. Many of the connections to otherpassengers are made duringmeals. Dinners on the River Royalewere not to be missed. Most nightswere casual with the exceptionof the Captain’s Welcome andCaptain’s Farewell, which arejust slightly more formal. are true French delights ranging from homemade icecreams to hand crafted Napoleons constructed from layersof puff pastry and rich cream, also known as mille feuille.Everyone at my table would frequently order differentdesserts and share. There is a family type of feeling onboardthat is hard to explain. I was walking through Avignon aftera quick bout of shopping and heard my name called outfrom across the street. It was John and Karen, passengersfrom Lafayette, LA whom I had met on the sun deck earlierin the week. Here they were shouting across the busy streetwanting to know what I bought. It was lovely to feel thatcomfortable and familiar with people I had only known fora few days and the credit goes entirely to Uniworld and theenvironment created on their ships. It was with a bit of sadness that I said “Au Revoir” to myfloating home for the week and new friends. Uniworld andFrance both exceeded my expectations and provided mewith cherished memories.September 22, 2011 • 5:30 pm • AAA AmherstJoin Elyse Reilly, Uniworld River Cruises and Master GardenerSally Cunningham as they highlight Floriade 2012.Please RSVP to 1-855-862-6651.september MeetingsGreat news ~ AAA Solo Travelers Club will soon be on Facebook!
