Computer <strong>for</strong>ensic examinations by ICAC Task Forces.In FY 2008, 14,339 computer <strong>for</strong>ensic examinations were reported; 19,269 computer <strong>for</strong>ensicexams were reported in 2009. <strong>The</strong> goal of a <strong>for</strong>ensic examination is to indentify files that containchild sexual abuse images. Forensic exams may include examination of video, text, or picturefiles; examination of chat logs, e-mails, or other communication programs; <strong>and</strong> / or examinationof file storage <strong>and</strong> structure. <strong>The</strong> level of ef<strong>for</strong>t required <strong>for</strong> a <strong>for</strong>ensic exam varies greatly bythe size <strong>and</strong> type of device being examined.
