Interpol WashingtonINTERPOL Washington, a component of the Department, is designated by the Attorney Generalas the official U.S. representative to the International Criminal Police Organization(INTERPOL). As the national point of contact <strong>for</strong> INTERPOL in the United States, INTERPOLWashington routinely exchanges criminal investigative data with international counterparts onbehalf of the more than 18,000 federal, state, local <strong>and</strong> tribal law en<strong>for</strong>cement agencies in theUnited States. INTERPOL Washington is uniquely positioned within the interagency tofacilitate secure <strong>and</strong> immediate international communications <strong>and</strong> in<strong>for</strong>mation sharing betweendomestic <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong>eign law en<strong>for</strong>cement agencies which is critical in the global fight against childexploitation. In this role, INTERPOL Washington is capable of instantly providing criminalintelligence <strong>and</strong> investigative leads from worldwide sources to all U.S. agencies assigned toINTERPOL Washington, which includes the Department, DHS, Department of State (DOS),FBI, ICE, USMS, <strong>and</strong> all relevant state <strong>and</strong> local liaison offices. Key child protection programsat INTERPOL Washington include:• Providing support to the USMS <strong>and</strong> other federal, state, local <strong>and</strong> tribal law en<strong>for</strong>cementagencies charged with locating <strong>and</strong> apprehending fugitive <strong>and</strong> non-compliant sexoffenders;• Tracking convicted sex offenders who relocate, visit, or are deported to <strong>for</strong>eign countries;• Tracking convicted sex offenders who relocate or visit the U.S. from <strong>for</strong>eign countries;• Utilizing the INTERPOL Notice System <strong>and</strong> I-24/7 Global Communications System, asecure messaging system, to exchange investigative in<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>and</strong> requests <strong>for</strong>assistance, locate <strong>and</strong> identify victims <strong>and</strong> witnesses, combat sex tourism, <strong>and</strong> locatemissing <strong>and</strong> abducted children;• Providing ICE, FBI, <strong>and</strong> other law en<strong>for</strong>cement agencies with international investigativeassistance, which includes combating the distribution of child sex abuse images via theInternet <strong>and</strong> identifying known victims; <strong>and</strong>• Supporting NCMEC in locating missing children, publishing international alerts onmissing children, <strong>and</strong> collaborating with DOS, domestic <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong>eign law en<strong>for</strong>cement toreturn these children.57
