AMECO's mission as an international association of nonprofitorganizations, is to provide a voice on issues related to missing <strong>and</strong> exploited children <strong>and</strong> theirfamilies <strong>and</strong> to nurture credible, ethical <strong>and</strong> effective nonprofit member organizations. AMECOmembers are national, regional <strong>and</strong> local non-profit organizations that provide direct services tothe families of missing <strong>and</strong> exploited children <strong>and</strong> community education programs to enhancecommunity safety.b. Bureau of Justice Assistance<strong>The</strong> Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) supports law en<strong>for</strong>cement, courts, corrections, victimservices, technology, <strong>and</strong> prevention initiatives that strengthen the nation’s criminal justicesystem. <strong>The</strong> BJA currently provides funding to 42 human trafficking task <strong>for</strong>ces across theUnited States. Since effectively combating trafficking requires a multidisciplinary approach, thehuman trafficking task <strong>for</strong>ces include members of state <strong>and</strong> local law en<strong>for</strong>cement, prosecutors,immigration <strong>and</strong> customs en<strong>for</strong>cement officers, <strong>and</strong> victim assistance coordinators. <strong>The</strong>se task<strong>for</strong>ces are focused on the identification, rescue, <strong>and</strong> restoration of victims as well as prosecutionof the perpetrators of trafficking <strong>for</strong> <strong>for</strong>ced labor <strong>and</strong> sexual exploitation. Although these task<strong>for</strong>ces do not focus exclusively on child victims, operations conducted by these humantrafficking task <strong>for</strong>ces sometimes result in the identification of child victims.52
