Office of Justice Programs (OJP)<strong>The</strong> Office of Justice Programs (OJP) works in partnership with federal, state, local <strong>and</strong> tribalgovernment officials to support the justice system. <strong>The</strong> OJPs’ partnerships provide actionableplans to all levels of government to improve the administration of justice. Achieving the missionrequires coordination <strong>and</strong> cooperation among its components, to include, the Bureau of JusticeAssistance (BJA), the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), the Community Capacity DevelopmentOffice, the <strong>National</strong> Institute of Justice (NIJ), the Office <strong>for</strong> Victims of Crime, the Office ofJuvenile Justice <strong>and</strong> Delinquency <strong>Prevention</strong> (OJJDP), <strong>and</strong> the Office of Sex OffenderSentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering <strong>and</strong> Tracking.a. Office of Juvenile Justice <strong>and</strong> Delinquency <strong>Prevention</strong> (OJJDP)OJP’s Office of Juvenile Justice <strong>and</strong> Delinquency <strong>Prevention</strong> (OJJDP) provides nationalleadership, coordination, <strong>and</strong> resources to prevent <strong>and</strong> respond to juvenile delinquency <strong>and</strong>victimization. OJJDP supports states <strong>and</strong> communities in their ef<strong>for</strong>ts to develop <strong>and</strong> implementeffective <strong>and</strong> coordinated prevention <strong>and</strong> intervention programs. OJJDP provides extensivetraining <strong>and</strong> technical assistance to state <strong>and</strong> local law en<strong>for</strong>cement regarding children’s issues.Additionally, OJJDP provides funding <strong>and</strong> training support <strong>for</strong> the Internet Crimes Against<strong>Child</strong>ren (ICAC) Task Forces. As noted above, these task <strong>for</strong>ces play a significant role inaddressing exploitation of children on the internet. Other programs supported by OJJDP arelisted below.i. AMBER Alert ProgramSince 1996 the Department has supported states <strong>and</strong> communities in developing their AMBERAlert response teams to respond to incidences of missing children be<strong>for</strong>e those children arevictimized or exploited. AMBER Alert is a partnership among State <strong>and</strong> local governments, themedia, <strong>and</strong> the U.S. Department. <strong>The</strong>re are currently 120 regional <strong>and</strong> local AMBER Alert planscovering all 50 States <strong>and</strong> the District of Columbia. Special AMBER Alert initiatives help tribalgovernments develop capacity to implement AMBER Alert responses in Indian Country <strong>and</strong> toincrease international law en<strong>for</strong>cement cooperation across the U.S. borders with Mexico <strong>and</strong>Canada. To date, 492 children have been recovered by Federal, State, <strong>and</strong> local law en<strong>for</strong>cementthrough the AMBER Alert program.50
