al<strong>on</strong>g with <strong>the</strong> vertical b<strong>on</strong>e availability, <strong>the</strong> width of <strong>the</strong> alveolar ridge also plays an<br />

important part. <strong>the</strong> orofacial b<strong>on</strong>e around <strong>the</strong> implant should be at least 1 mm.<br />

Diagnostic T<br />

By using <strong>the</strong> Diagnostic t in <strong>the</strong> patient‘s mouth or <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> cast, an initial impressi<strong>on</strong> of<br />

<strong>the</strong> spatial relati<strong>on</strong>s for <strong>the</strong> choice of <strong>the</strong> implant sholder diameter and pros<strong>the</strong>tic rec<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong><br />

can be obtained. <strong>the</strong> pictogrammes <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> instrument show which arm is<br />

used for which measurement. <strong>the</strong> Diagnostic t was developed as an aid and is used<br />

for <strong>the</strong> initial diagnosis and to assist <strong>the</strong> dentist in determining <strong>the</strong> space requirement.<br />

use of additi<strong>on</strong>al planning methods, such as use of a drilling template (see page 21<br />

and 22), are recommended.<br />

Diagnostic T (fr<strong>on</strong>t)<br />

X = Minimum occlusal space requirement<br />

(for <strong>the</strong> lowest pros<strong>the</strong>tic restorati<strong>on</strong><br />

variant)<br />

Y = Interproximal distance (width of gap)<br />

Z = Implant centre to adjacent tooth<br />

(1/2 <strong>the</strong> width of <strong>the</strong> gap)<br />

Diagnostic T (back)<br />

Minimum vertical space requirement for<br />

access with surgical instruments<br />
