Note <strong>on</strong> implant positi<strong>on</strong> planning<br />
Mesio-distal implant positi<strong>on</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> implant diameter, implant type,<br />
positi<strong>on</strong> and number of implants should<br />
be selected individually taking <strong>the</strong><br />
anatomy and spatial circumstances into<br />
account. <strong>the</strong> dimensi<strong>on</strong>s given here<br />
should be regarded as minimum<br />
guidelines. <strong>on</strong>ly when <strong>the</strong> minimum<br />
distances (see illustrati<strong>on</strong>) are observed<br />
is it possible to design <strong>the</strong> restorati<strong>on</strong><br />
so that <strong>the</strong> necessary oral hygiene<br />
measures can be carried out in <strong>the</strong><br />
regi<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> implant neck.<br />

Implant distance between<br />
adjacent teeth<br />
1. as a first step, <strong>the</strong> distance between<br />
two teeth can be determined by <strong>the</strong><br />
width of <strong>the</strong> gap. Depending <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
tooth shape, <strong>the</strong> width of <strong>the</strong> gap is<br />
about 1 mm (2x 0.5 mm) less than <strong>the</strong><br />
distance at b<strong>on</strong>e level.<br />
2. mesio-distally <strong>the</strong>re should be a<br />
distance of 1.5 – 2 mm from <strong>the</strong> imp-<br />
lant shoulder to <strong>the</strong> adjacent tooth at<br />
b<strong>on</strong>e level.<br />
3. <strong>the</strong> minimum gap width for <strong>the</strong><br />
various implant types can be derived<br />
according to this basic rule.<br />
for example: implant shoulder<br />
Ø 4.8 mm + 2x 1 mm ≥ 6.8 mm<br />
minimum gap width.
