HDL 2010 Studios51We organized the first three HDL Studios oneducation, sustainability and ageing with twogoals in mind: to advance Sitra’s understandingof important topics relevant to the futureof Finland, and to test and develop the StudioModel. 1 Included in this section is a comprehensivereview of each Studio week. Additionally, the full challenge briefings for each Studio havebeen included as an appendix.P54P64P74Education StudioSustainability StudioAgeing Studio1—We selected these topics for two basicreasons, one to do with content and the otherwith resources. We chose topics that struck theright balance between international relevanceand Sitra’s national mandate. As such we omittedpossible themes such as forestry which areimportant for Finland but less compelling froma broader global perspective. Financial andstaffing resources were also a factor. Simplyput, one topic would not have given us theconfidence of replicability and five would havebeen unmanageable. These three studios andthe three topics we selected offered a nicebalance between mission, manageability andreplicability.
