Sitra is anindependent, publicly funded body which, under the supervision of theFinnish Parliament, promotes the welfare of Finnish society. Since its establishment,Sitra’s duty has been to promote stable and balanced developmentin Finland, the qualitative and quantitative growth of its economy,and its international competitiveness and co-operation. Our activities aregoverned by a vision of a successful and skilled Finland. We have alwaysoperated with a strong belief in the future and in the ability of innovationto benefit society.HDL is a continuation of Sitra’s long-term activities in making design akey driver in building the Finnish society and the innovation system. Sitra'sfirst design-related event was held in 1968, when it sponsored the Industrial,Environment and Product <strong>Design</strong> Seminar (HDL1968).Sitra will sponsor three studios during the summer of 2010 which eachbring a group of six to eight top international designers and key experts tospend an intensive week in Finland "charretting" on a given studio topic.With access to key decision makers relevant to their area of inquiry, theseteams will be charged with developing a strategic road map and a top tenlist of possible action items.322
