108The HDL Studio ModelSunday:Settling InMonday:Getting to Know the SystemIf possible, gather theteam for a casual, quick mealto welcome everyone and givethem a chance to get to knowone another. In our case we hadpeople flying in from overseas,so this get-together was an earlydinner that ended with plentyof time for everyone to catch upon sleep before the busy week.If it’s not possible to do thisimmediately before the Studio, try to find another opportunityfor the team to meet socially asfar as one month in advance ofthe Studio week.To help put the team atease, start off with a sessiondiscussing ‘what success lookslike’. This and introductionseasily take up the morning ofMonday. To give the personalintroductions a bit of structurewe ask each person to share aquestion that they have afterreading the challenge briefing.Monday morning is also theright time for the Design Leadof the Studio to share witheveryone some thoughts abouthow they want to handle thedesign process during the nextfive days. The point of this chatis to give the team some reassurancethat although it mightfeel quite chaotic at times, thereis a logic to the madness.
