ARTH 430 Spring 2010CritiquesWriting AssignmentsRead <strong>the</strong> assigned article or essay and <strong>the</strong>n write an analysis <strong>of</strong> it. Yourcritique should summarize <strong>the</strong> reading and should include your ownevaluation or opinions <strong>of</strong> it. The critique should be typed (double-spaced)and approximately 250 words (one double-spaced page <strong>of</strong> 10 - 12 pointtype).The following questions are meant as guidelines, not as a manda<strong>to</strong>ry checklist1. What is <strong>the</strong> basic argument?2. Are specific characteristics <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> works <strong>of</strong> art are singled out for discussion,and why?3. What kinds <strong>of</strong> evidence are used <strong>to</strong> support <strong>the</strong> author's argument?4. Does <strong>the</strong> author have a particular point <strong>of</strong> view or bias?5. Is <strong>the</strong> conclusion clear and logical? Do you agree with it?
