This Associate Counsel for the Commandant is responsible for advisingsenior uniformed and civilian personnel at <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Corps</strong> <strong>Headquarters</strong> andinstallations on legal matters pertaining to the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Corps</strong> land use andenvironmental compliance responsibilities including: the requirements offederal property acquisition and disposal laws (including BRAC), land useplanning statutes (including the National Environmental Policy Act), naturaland cultural resource laws (including the Endangered Species Act, theNational Historic Preservation Act, laws relating to Native Americanprotections, and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act), and environmentalcompliance statutes (including the Clean Water Act). The position supportedalso participates in oversight and guidance of the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Corps</strong> propertyacquisition and disposal efforts, land use planning program (includingAICUZ), and natural and cultural resource management programs.
