Each <strong>Ixia</strong> test interface can emulate a router gridas large as 200 x 200. In addition, links and routes can beflapped to dynamically assess how the router will behaveunder adverse network conditions.Multi-Protocol Support<strong>Ixia</strong>’s family of emulation software can be run simultaneouslyon one or many ports in conjunction with line-rate traffic tosimulate realistic network scenarios. For MPLS/RSVP-TEtesting, <strong>OSPF</strong> Traffic Engineering LSAs can be injected intoa System Under Test (SUT) to create realistic MPLSconfigurations (<strong>OSPF</strong>v2 only). In addition, custom TLVencoding can be used to create various scenarios.Integrated Testing<strong>Ixia</strong>’s <strong>OSPF</strong> <strong>Emulation</strong> <strong>Software</strong> is installed as an add-on toIxNetwork, <strong>Ixia</strong>’s Graphical User Interface (GUI) applicationfor data and control plane testing. The IxNetwork software exposes many of the packet parameters so thatcomplex IP packets can be created. Traffic streams to advertised routes can be automatically created with anautomated stream generation tool. Traffic statistics can be logged and graphed. In addition, <strong>OSPF</strong> encodes areavailable to facilitate negative state and session testing.Easy-to-Use InterfaceThe IxNetwork GUI facilitates the quick and easy configuration of routing protocol emulations. Configurationwizards provide a simple, graphical-based step-by-step process for initial setup of small to large scale testtopologies across multiple <strong>Ixia</strong> test ports. Wizards are available for <strong>OSPF</strong> specific emulation as well as morecomplex Layer 2 and Layer 3 MPLS VPNs which may use <strong>OSPF</strong>. In addition, IxNetwork’s spreadsheet GUIparadigm provides for the entry, editing, and viewing of large configurations across multiple test ports.Spreadsheet-like commands are available to quickly scalea configuration or apply operations across multiple values.Once a network topology is created, it can be copied easilyacross any supported <strong>Ixia</strong> test port.Tcl AutomationAutomated scripts can be quickly created using the <strong>Ixia</strong> TclAutomation Environment. Alternatively, the IxNetwork GUIcan be used to set up a test configuration, then <strong>Ixia</strong>’sScriptGen utility used to translate the GUI settings to Tclcode with minimal commands. Tcl support is available onWindows, Linux and UNIX platforms.Page 3
