C. Observation and PracticumAfter students have started <strong>to</strong> develop some <strong>the</strong>oretical understanding <strong>of</strong> languageteaching, <strong>the</strong>y will begin <strong>to</strong> observe o<strong>the</strong>r instruc<strong>to</strong>rs in action. In <strong>the</strong> onlineenvironment <strong>the</strong>y are asked <strong>to</strong> observe and comment on videos found online <strong>to</strong>illustrate specific points. They are <strong>the</strong>n asked <strong>to</strong> set up classroom visits <strong>to</strong> complete<strong>the</strong>ir observation requirement.The final component <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Online ESL Teacher Certificate Program is a 10 hourteaching practicum in an Adult ESL classroom. Students will be required <strong>to</strong> arrangea practicum placement with a certified, experience teacher. The lessons will bevideotaped and sent <strong>to</strong> The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Winnipeg <strong>to</strong> be viewed by a practicumsupervisor, with expertise in second language instruction and <strong>the</strong> men<strong>to</strong>rship <strong>of</strong>educa<strong>to</strong>rs. Students will benefit from <strong>the</strong> feedback <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir practicum supervisor ininforming subsequent teaching experiences in <strong>the</strong>ir selected classroom.Links <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> videos and forms for <strong>the</strong> observation are embedded in <strong>the</strong> coursecontent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> WebCT LMS.D.
