To thebest of our knowledge,here is a chronology ofhistorical highlights.1951Company Founder Tom Jennings formsThe Jennings Organ Company, soon to bejoined by JMI (Jennings MusicalInstruments), the company responsible forVOX amplifiers.First Univox amplifier that can be used forguitar is marketed by JMI.TOM JENNINGS1952First ads for Univox amplifier and keyboardappear in Britain’s Melody Maker magazine.1954Jennings advertises “Rotary action footvolume control” with the first use of VOX name.Advertisement for organs shows “footswell control” (predecessor of VOX volumepedal) and “Amplifier,” a remote, poweredspeaker used with the Jennings streamlinedJ-51 organ. This is first use of theVOX name for an amplifier of any kind.1955Lonnie Donnegan popularizes “skiffle”music and the “beat boom” is born.Jennings considers producing a guitaramplifier.VOX advertises the “Conversion Unit,” anadd-on that allows any electronic instrumentto be played through a Univoxkeyboard amplifier.1956With the Rock & Roll revolution underway,Jennings modifies the amplifier sectionfrom his electronic organs for the electricdguitar, but the project flounders.Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” hits UKcharts.DICK DENNEY & TOM JENNINGS1957Dick Denney is hired as an engineer andJennings Musical Industries, Ltd (JMI) isincorporated.VOX BLUE SPEAKERas a response to demands for more power.asd as1957The first appearance ofthe VOX name on aguitar amplifier – theAC2/30.Cavern Club opens on Matthews Street inLiverpool, England.Buddy Holly and Crickets record “That’llBe The Day.”AC101958JMI produces a 15-Watt guitar amplifier withthe brand name VOX.
