It is my pleasure to welcome you to the14th Annual Main Event Horse Auction. Once again, the salewill be held at the California Mid-State Fairgrounds in Paso Robles, California, home to one of thefinest equine facilities on the West Coast! I am grateful to Vivian Robertson and her staff for all oftheir assistance. I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the consignors who have entrusted us withthe merchandising of their horses.You will find many familiar names in the list of consignors, as the majority of them have sold horseswith us in the past. This has always been a select “invitation only” auction. This year our numbers willbe fewer and the quality will be outstanding. It has always been my goal to make this event the leadingsource of quality ranch, pleasure and arena ready horses to be found anywhere in the United States.These are very exciting times for us in the livestock industry. Record high cattle prices coupled withanother great feed year here in the West has made this the most prosperous time any of us have seen inthe beef cattle business. Historically low cattle numbers nationally and the early October rains promiseto make 2012 another great year for Western Cattlemen. In the words of one of my old time customers,“We’ve lived a long time to see the cattle business this good.” With this in mind, this is the year youowe it to yourself to select and purchase from this top-pick of working ranch horses.We will begin and conclude the sale, as always, with my yearlings. These yearlings have all beenraised outside totally, without supplementation, traveling the hills and crossing creeks every day.The colts stayed out longer and are a little greener-fleshed than the fillies, however, I’m sure you canappreciate the way they have been raised and grown-out.
