The One-Stop Career Centers are <strong>the</strong> cornerstone <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Workforce Investment Act <strong>of</strong>1998. The 3,500 One-Stop Career Centers in <strong>the</strong> United States, Puerto Rico and <strong>the</strong> U.S.Virgin Islands provide employment and training services for workers, job seekers andemployers free <strong>of</strong> charge. About 1,900 One-Stop Career Centers are comprehensive andprovide a full array <strong>of</strong> employment and training services while <strong>the</strong> remaining 1,600centers are affiliate or satellite One-Stop Career Centers that provide some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>services. The Job Corps Program is <strong>the</strong> nation’s largest residential educational and vocationalprogram. The 122 Job Corps centers throughout <strong>the</strong> country are designed to helpAmerica’s economically disadvantaged youth between <strong>the</strong> ages <strong>of</strong> 16 and 24 break down<strong>the</strong> many barriers to employment. Eligibility requirements for <strong>the</strong> program include: U.S.citizenship or immigrant with permanent resident status; must be between <strong>the</strong> ages <strong>of</strong> 16and 24; meet low-income criteria; and be in need <strong>of</strong> additional education/vocationaltraining.
