Opening doors to theworld of information...Summer youth camp!The camp has been nationally recognizedfrom both the Institute of Museum andLibrary Services and the American LibraryAssociation.Several states around the country haveexpressed interest in using this camp as amodel to develop their own camp andencourage library careers.McFarlin Library atWe are keeping the participants’ costs to aminimum ($150) to permit participation froma broad cross-section of the state. Last year19 communities around Oklahoma wererepresented by the 30 campers.Recommend the camp to anyone ages 12-14who lives in Oklahoma, who you think would beinterested… reads a lot, volunteers at alibrary, or is a computer geek. <strong>Information</strong><strong>Matrix</strong> <strong>Camp</strong>4th YearThe Oklahoma Library Association(OLA) and <strong>Rose</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> in 2007received a grant from the federal Instituteof Museum and Library Servicesfor three years to have a camp for middleschool students to learn about thelarge variety of libraries and librarians.Many middle schoolers only know aboutpublic and school librarians and then donot even realize the variety of positionswithin all kinds of libraries.A shortage of librarians, especiallyschool library media specialists, existsin Oklahoma.
