WQB4000SOPS Rework SystemFor unmatched precisionand functionalitywww.weller-tools.com

Opening up new possibilitiesin repair and rework. As on-board components become increasingly complex,Weller ® continues to lead the field with innovative, user-friendlyrepair and assembly tools that enable users to successfully takeon increasingly demanding rework challenges. The WQB4000SOPS (Split Optic Positioning System)is the third generation of the Weller BGA/SMT repair system. It is engineered to meet the exceptional demands placed onmodern rework tools and is designed to deliver real value foryour investment. It is a comprehensive, user-friendly system for the removaland soldering of BGA components, without the risk ofthermal damage to the component or circuit board.Streamlined technologyThe WQB4000SOPS enables users to workwith a standard PC via a USB 2.0 port.Additional appliances or interface cards arenot required.Split Optics for perfectlyaccurate positioningThe SOPS (Split Optic Positioning System)with the high-resolution 2 MP CMOS USB 2.0camera enables accurate positioning of thecomponents following desoldering. It workswith a single camera and two-color lightingfor exact positioning. Superb image quality athigh dynamics and very low image noise ensureprecise, ergonomic component mounting. An ever-expanding field ofapplicationsThe WQB4000SOPS is optimally equippedto take on repair and rework in mobilecommunications, research and general BGA/QFP work. Specifically, with PBGA, CBGA,CCGA, CSP’s, Micro BGA, QFN, PLCC, SOP andPGA components.1. Components without direct access to thesolder joint2. Leaded components with external solder joints3. A wide variety of special modulesPerfect component/circuit board alignmentWith the split optic camera, live images ofa component and a circuit board can bealigned independently of each other usingthe x, y and theta axis fine adjustment drives.1. Component size and theta axis2. Align y axis3. Align x axis4. Component aligned!WQB4000SOPS Rework System

Maximum precision.Maximum flexibility.Maximum user-friendliness.This third generation repair and rework station combinesa completely design with state-of-the-art split optic cameratechnology to provide users with absolute reliability, optimum process control and enhanced ease of use.The system was engineered to bring together a finely tunedbalance of automated technology for component pick-upand positioning with a semi-automated rework cycle –opening up new possibilities and applications in repairand rework.Well-considered detail, high-precision results and anoutstanding price-performance ratio promise to make thissystem from Weller the first choice among discerning users.Heating from above: selectiveand sensitiveThe hot gas heater with patented nozzlesystem, coupled with digital controlelectronics for temperature monitoringand regulation of the air flow rate, deliversthe finely metered supply of heat to thecomponents. A temperature sensor placeddirectly in the hot gas nozzle preventsthermal overload of the component andefficiently regulates the top heater, providingmaximum process control.Optimized ease of useEverything about the WQB4000SOPShas been engineered and designed forease of use and superb results – fromits advanced, user-friendly software toits many supportive details, such as theSoftStart feature.Monitoring software:comprehensive functionsThe monitoring software determinestemperature profiles and facilitatesdefinition of the optimal soldering process.Advanced design forenhanced precisionThe WQB4000SOPS features a modulardesign with a slide platform and advancedpatented systems and materials of thehighest quality to guarantee industrialreliability and long-lasting durability.Heating from below:rapid and homogeneousThe temperature-regulated two-zoneinfrared bottom heater provides rapid, yet precisely controlled warm-up athomogeneous substrate temperatures.Teach-in feature: fast, effectiveparameter identificationRepeatable results can only be achievedby a process cycle that considers all theparameters of the repair operation. The ‘Teach-in’ feature provides a quick andeasy method of determining process cycleparameters and identifying critical points– without the need for in-depth operatorknowledge. The software includes a library of solderingprofiles, i.e. general and specific parametersenabling repeatable use.New profiles can be edited easily by the userand added to the library.www.weller-tools.com

WQB4000SOPS rework cycle1. Removal (desoldering) of thedefective componentThe ability to preheat the circuit board anda temperature/time controlled process arecritical for good reflow of the solder joints. At the end of the reflow cycle, to avoid damageto the solder pads, a vacuum lift automaticallyremoves the component from the board withminimum force and exact temperature control.2. Cleaning of the circuit boardResidual solder should be removed from theboard with a desoldering iron or desolder wick.Residual contaminants can be removed witha suitable solvent spray.3. Positioning of the new componentThe WQB4000SOPS station’s split optic cameraplacement system ensures precise positioning ofa wide range of components – from BGA to finepitch SMT.See the wide range of WQB accessoriesincluding reflow nozzles, temperaturesensors and working appliances atwww.weller-tools.com4. Component solderingReflow of the replaced component is essentiallya repeat of the removal process, without the vacuumlift being initiated at the end of the profile. An extensive range of hot gas nozzles and adaptersare available to cater for the many body sizes ofBGA devices or QFP and PLCC packages.5. Temperature profilingAn eight-step temperature profile enablessoldering and cooling that are perfectlytailored to specific requirements.USAApex Tool Group, LLC1000 Lufkin RoadApex, NC 27539-8160Tel: +1 (800) 476-3030 Ext. 1,Fax: +1 (919) 387-2640CANADAApex Tools – Canada5925 McLaughlin Rd.Mississauga, Ontario Canada L5R 1B8Tel: (905) 501-4785,Fax: (905) 501-4786Technical DataDimensions (L x W x H):Dynamic Dimensions:Power Supply Voltage:Fuse Rating:Total Power Rating:Top Heater Power:Bottom Heater Power:25 x 25 x 26 in.
