The midweek games will be the final tuneups for the Sycamores before beginningMissouri Valley Conference play on Saturday in Wichita, Kan. against Wichita <strong>State</strong>. After finishing 2-3 in theirlast outing at the Bulldog Invitational, the Sycamores will be looking to get back to their winning ways led byShelby Wilson, Morgan Allee and Megan Stone who are all batting over .300 for <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> through the first19 games of the season. The Sycamores finished the weekend 2-3 playing two games each with NorthDakota <strong>State</strong> and Raford and a single game against #23 Georgia. <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> defeated both NDSU 10-7 andRadford 9-8 in eight innings before falling to Georgia 9-1, Radford 3-2 and NDSU 4-2 to end the weekend. JuniorShelby Wilson finished the weekend with a .538 batting average with six RBI’s.

TheRedhawks enter the games with a 5-11 record and are coming off a 9-2 loss to the Purple Acesof Evansville. So far this season the Rehawks have been led by Savannah Carpenter who isbatting .333 on the season with six RBI’s. On the mound for the Redhawks, Taylor Cowan leadsthe team with a 2.10 ERA and 3-6 record over her 60.0 innings pitched. with 33 strikeouts.Scouting The Golden HurricanesThe Sycamores and Golden Hurricanes have previously met eight times with Tulsa leadingthe all-time series 5-3. The two teams last met during the 1997 season when the GoldenHurricanes won a pair of games over the Sycamores. Tulsa enters the game with a 19-5 recordand is on a six-game win streak, having last seen the field on March 10 in an 8-0 win overMarshall. Tulsa is led by Jill Barrett who is batting .405 with seven doubles and 13 RBI’s whileAimee Cregor leads the Tulsa pitching staff with an 0.84 ERA and 11-1 record over her 75.1innings pitched with 115 strikeouts.MVC leaderboardNow 19 games into the 2013 season many Sycamores are near the top of the MVCleaderboard in multiple statistical categories. Sophomore Megan Stone leads the MVCwith her eight doubles while junior Morgan Allee also leads the Valley with 17 stolen bases.Freshman Alexa Cavin leads all MVC players with five sacrifice bunts and junior Shelby Wilsonleads the MVC in batting average with her .446.Sycamores vs. Ranked OpponentsThe <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> softball team is set to take on its first ranked opponent of the year thisweekend in #23 Georgia. This will mark the first time the Sycamores have faced a rankedopponent since the 2007 season. All-time ISU is 2-14 against ranked opponents with their twowins coming in the form of a 2-1 win over #22 NC <strong>State</strong> during the 2007 season and 4-1 winover #21 Georgia Tech also during the 2007 season.Moving On UpJust 19 games into her Sycamore career, junior Morgan Allee is already written her nameinto the ISU record book in stolen bases. Allee has recorded 17 stolen bases in 19 games andcurrently sits in sixth place in the ISU single season record book. Allee is also just three stolenbases away from second on the same list. Allee is also five stolen bases from breaking into thetop 10 in career stolen bases.Patient At The PlateThrough their first 19 games the Sycamore batters have been extremely patient at the plateand as a team have recieved 80 walks. Three Sycamore batters have also recieved double digitwalks in senior Halee Myers (11), sophomore Megan Bunting (10) and sophomore MeganStone (10). Last season as a team the Sycamores recieved 118 walks in 53 games.Using The Long BallThrough their first 19 games, the <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> softball team has recorded six total home runsand are just four homers away from breaking into the ISU top 10 for home runs. SophomoreMegan Stone and junior Shelby Wilson have combined to account for all six of the team’shomers with each recording six. Freshman Alexa Cavin just missed her first career home run atthe Tiger Invitational, bouncing the ball off the top of the fence before coming back into play.Swinging Those BatsThe <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> softball team came out of the gates swinging to open the 2013 seasonand through 14 games are averaging seven hits a game. The Sycamores have out hit theiropponents six times and are 5-1 when doing so. The Sycamores also have three playersbatting over .300 on the season, including junior Shelby Wilson who leads the MVC in battingaverage at .446.

Allee has punished opposing teams with a .478 on base percentage andeight RBI’s. However, Allee has done even more damage on the base pads with 17 stolen basesin 20 attempts. Freshmen Kelsey Montgomery and Alexa Cavin have also been a threat on thebases with Montgomery going 6-8 and Cavin 6-7 in their first 19 games as a Sycamore. As ateam the Sycamores have stolen 43 bases to their opponents 26 and also have 30 sacrifices onthe season.Wilson & Scott Are All-TournamentAfter wrapping up play at the Blues City Classic this past weekend in Southaven, Miss., twoSycamore players were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts. Sophomore AshliScott was named 1st Team All-Tourmanet after making one start and three apperances for ISUwith a 0.58 ERA with a 1-0 record over her 12 innings pitched. Scott also recorded a seasonhigh in strikeouts with seven in her relief appearance against Nicholls <strong>State</strong>. Junior ShelbyWilson was also named 2nd Team All-Tournament after going 5-12 at the plate with two RBI’sand a run scored with three stolen bases.Getting Back In The Swing Of ThingsAfter being away from the sport of softball for more than two years, sophomore pitcherStephanie Fougerousse opened her collegiate career with a 2-0 record on the mound duringopening weekend. Now 14 games into the season, Fougerousse holds a 4-4 record and 4.72ERA over her 53.1 innings pitched.Returners Are KeyWhile they lost four letter winners and three starters to graduation, the <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> fieldingalignment features much of the same as last year. The Sycamores return junior Shelby Wilsonand sophomores Megan Stone and Ashley Dickerson to hold down the infield with newcomerMorgan Allee to fill the final sport. The Sycamores also return three key outfielders who spentsignificant time in the position during the 2012 campaign in: seniors Mackenzie Connelly andHalee Myers as well as sophomore Megan Bunting.Bring ‘Em OnThe <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> softball team will have an opportunity to test themselves throughoutthe early part of the 2013 season as they will take on a number of teams being nationallyrecognized. The Sycamores fell 9-1 to #24 Georgia with games still remaining against #21Tulsa. Missouri Valley Conference foe Illinois <strong>State</strong> has also recieved votes to be rankedthroughout the season and Auburn was ranked in the top 44 by College Sports Madness.Off To A Hot StartAfter starting the 2013 season 4-0, the <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> softball team started off on one ofthe hottest starts in recent memory. The Sycamores four straight wins to open a season isthe most since the 1990 season when they won 14 straight games to open the season. TheSycamores 9-0 win is also just the sixth time in program history that an ISU team has shut outan opponent in a season opener since 2003. Bouman also coachedLindsey Beisser to second team All-MVC honors.Bouman comes to <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> from Iowa Lakes Community College wherehe spent one successful season. His team finished with a 27-12 overall recordand advanced to the Region XI Tournament, winning its first contest.Prior to his stint at Iowa Lakes Community College, Bouman served as the pitching coach atthe <strong>University</strong> of Iowa for three seasons where the Hawkeyes went 109-59 and twice qualifiedfor the NCAA Tournament.Bouman’s success at Iowa came early. In 2008, his first season as pitching coach, the Hawkeyepitchers garnered top-25 national rankings in four categories: seventh nationally in teamearned run average (1.23) and Brittany Weil finished the season ranked 22nd in individualwins (28) and 23rd in earned run average (1.22). Weil was also a four-time Big Ten Pitcher ofthe Week honoree, first-team NFCA all-Mideast Region selection, and second team all-BigTen pick. Current <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> assistant coach Amanda Zust finished the season ranked14th in hits allowed per seven innings (3.87) and 24th in earned run average (1.24). In hissecond season at Iowa, Bouman once again guided the pitching staff to national recognition.Iowa’s pitchers finished the 2009 season with a 1.38 ERA, which ranked seventh-nationally.In addition, Weil either broke or tied six school records during her senior campaign, and alsotossed five no-hitters, including a perfect game. Bouman guided Weil to Iowa’s first ever NFCANational Player of the Week honor, and she was also named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week fourtimes and went on to earn NFCA second team all-America honors, first team NFCA all-MidwestRegion and first team all-Big Ten honors.Bouman previously served as head coach at South Dakota <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> for six seasonsand is the winningest coach in SDSU school history. Bouman guided nine players to Division IAll-Independent teams, seven players to Division I All-Academic teams, and garnered an ESPNAcademic All-American honoree. During Bouman’s tenure, the Jackrabbits set school recordsfor career home runs, stolen bases, RBI, and sacrifices.Assistant coach Amanda Zust -- 2nd Season (Iowa ‘06)Amanda Zust enters her second season as an assistant coah of the <strong>Indiana</strong><strong>State</strong> softball team working primarily with the pitchers. In her first season withthe Sycamores Zust coached Lindsey Beisser to second team All-MVC honors.Before joining Coach Boaman’s staff at <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong>, Zust spent a season asa volunteer assistant coach at Drake <strong>University</strong> where she helped lead theBulldogs to a 34-21 record and a second place finish in the MVC.Zust, who graduated in 2010, was a standout pitcher at the <strong>University</strong> of Iowawhere she compiled a 56-27 overall record with 597 strikeouts. The Des Moines native ranks inthe school’s top-10 in several categories, including career games, innings pitched, completegames, wins and strikeouts. In addition, Zust earned Iowa’s Most Improved Player Award in2007 and 2008, took home its Gold Glove Award in 2009 and threw two no-hitters - one in2009 and another 364 days later in 2010. Zust also coached for five years at Des Moines EastHigh School in Des Moines, Iowa.Assistant coach Scott Miller -- 2nd SeasonReturning for his second season on staff as assistant coach of the <strong>Indiana</strong><strong>State</strong> softball program is Scott Miller. Miller serves primarily as a hitting coachfor the Sycamores and coached two players, Megan Stone and Shelby Wilsonto season batting averages over .325.Coach Scott Miller is no stranger to Bouman’s coaching staffs as he haspreviously served as an assitant coach at both South Dakota <strong>State</strong> and IowaLakes CC working primarily with outfielders and hitting. Miller has beenaround the professional fastpitch scene for over 20 years and has competed inseven ISC World Fastpitch Tournaments, earning All-American honors. Miller graduated fromEmporia <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> (KS) and has taught and coached high school athletics for over thirtyyears, winning multiple Nebraska <strong>State</strong> High School Championships.
