Configuring <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong> for modem useNote:●●●●Use <strong>the</strong> ppp au<strong>the</strong>ntication command to decide <strong>the</strong> au<strong>the</strong>ntication method usedwhen starting a client session on <strong>the</strong> PPP server. Use this command with one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>following parameters:- pap — Password Au<strong>the</strong>ntication Protocol. An unencrypted password is sent forau<strong>the</strong>ntication.- chap — Challenge Handshake Au<strong>the</strong>ntication Protocol. An encrypted password is sentfor au<strong>the</strong>ntication. To configure this password, use <strong>the</strong> ppp chap-secret command.- none — no password is sent.Note:The ppp au<strong>the</strong>ntication command changes <strong>the</strong> PPP au<strong>the</strong>nticationparameters <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> console port as well as <strong>the</strong> USB port, even if you use <strong>the</strong>command in USB interface context.Use <strong>the</strong> shutdown command to disconnect a session.Use <strong>the</strong> timeout absolute command to set <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> minutes until <strong>the</strong> systemautomatically disconnects an idle PPP incoming session. By default, <strong>the</strong>re is no timeout.Use <strong>the</strong> show interface usb-modem command to display <strong>the</strong> USB interfaceparameters, <strong>the</strong> current status <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> USB port, and <strong>the</strong> identity <strong>of</strong> any USB modemconnected to <strong>the</strong> USB port.Configuring <strong>the</strong> console port for modem useThe console port is labeled CONSOLE. The console port is an RJ-45 socket that functions as aserial port. You can connect a console device or serial modem to <strong>the</strong> console port to access <strong>the</strong>CLI. For more information, see Accessing <strong>the</strong> CLI on page 27.You can set <strong>the</strong> console port so that it automatically detects whe<strong>the</strong>r a console device or amodem is connected to it. Use <strong>the</strong> async mode interactive command to set <strong>the</strong> consoleport to use modem mode every time an <strong>Avaya</strong> proprietary modem cable is plugged into <strong>the</strong>console port. If you do not want <strong>the</strong> console port to automatically detect when a modem isconnected to it, use <strong>the</strong> async mode terminal command to disable interactive mode.Note:Note: By default, async mode is set to terminal.Use <strong>the</strong> following commands to configure <strong>the</strong> console port for use with a modem:● Use <strong>the</strong> async reset-modem command to reset <strong>the</strong> connected modem.●Use <strong>the</strong> speed command to set <strong>the</strong> PPP baud rate to be used by <strong>the</strong> console port whenconnected to a modem (in bits per second).
