Basic device configurationThe <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> Controller (MGC)The <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> Controller (MGC) controls telephone services on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Avaya</strong> <strong>G350</strong> <strong>Media</strong><strong>Gateway</strong>. You can use a media server with <strong>Avaya</strong> Communication Manager s<strong>of</strong>tware as anMGC. The <strong>G350</strong> supports both External Call Controllers (ECC) and Internal Call Controllers(ICC). An ICC is an <strong>Avaya</strong> S8300 <strong>Media</strong> Server that you install in <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong> as a media module. An ECC is an external media server that communicates with <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong> over <strong>the</strong> network.Note:Note: When <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong> uses an ECC, it can use a local S8300 as a backup controller. The S8300 functions in Local Survivable Processor (LSP) mode. If <strong>the</strong> ECCstops serving <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong>, <strong>the</strong> S8300 takes over <strong>the</strong> service.Table 2: <strong>Media</strong> servers supported by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Avaya</strong> <strong>G350</strong> <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> on page 52 lists <strong>the</strong>media servers that can be used with <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong>.To register <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong> with an MGC, you need <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong>’s serial number. You can find this serialnumber in one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following ways:●Table 2: <strong>Media</strong> servers supported by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Avaya</strong> <strong>G350</strong> <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong><strong>Media</strong> server Type Usage<strong>Avaya</strong> S8300 <strong>Media</strong> Server <strong>Media</strong> module ECC, ICC, or LSP<strong>Avaya</strong> S8500 <strong>Media</strong> Server External ECC<strong>Avaya</strong> S8700 <strong>Media</strong> Server External ECCUse <strong>the</strong> show system command.● Look for a 12-character string located on a label on <strong>the</strong> back panel <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong>.Configuring <strong>the</strong> MGC listThe <strong>G350</strong> must be registered with an MGC in order to provide telephone service. Use <strong>the</strong> setmgc list command to set <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong>’s MGC. You can enter <strong>the</strong> IP addresses <strong>of</strong> up to fourMGCs with <strong>the</strong> set mgc list command. The first MGC on <strong>the</strong> list is <strong>the</strong> primary MGC. The<strong>Avaya</strong> <strong>G350</strong> <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> searches for <strong>the</strong> primary MGC first. If it cannot connect to <strong>the</strong>primary MGC, it searches for <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r MGCs on <strong>the</strong> list.Note:Note:To register an S8500 or S8700 media server as <strong>the</strong> MGC, use <strong>the</strong> IP address <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> media server’s Control-LAN card (CLAN) ra<strong>the</strong>r than <strong>the</strong> IP address <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>media server itself.52 <strong>Administration</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Avaya</strong> <strong>G350</strong> <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong>
