Accessing <strong>the</strong> CLIAccessing CLI via a serial modemTo access <strong>the</strong> CLI with telnet through dialup from a remote location using a serial modem:1. Connect a modem to <strong>the</strong> console port (CONSOLE) on <strong>the</strong> front panel <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Avaya</strong> <strong>G350</strong><strong>Media</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong>. Use an RJ-45 serial cable to connect <strong>the</strong> modem. It is recommended touse a Multitech MultiModem ZBA, MT5634ZBA-V92.2. Make sure <strong>the</strong> console port is properly configured for modem use. For details, seeConfiguring <strong>the</strong> console port for modem use on page 78.3. From <strong>the</strong> remote computer, create a dialup network connection to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Avaya</strong> <strong>G350</strong> <strong>Media</strong><strong>Gateway</strong>. Use <strong>the</strong> TCP/IP and PPP protocols to create <strong>the</strong> connection. Configure <strong>the</strong>connection according to <strong>the</strong> configuration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> COM port <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> remote computer. Bydefault, The <strong>G350</strong> uses PAP au<strong>the</strong>ntication. If your network has a RADIUS server, you canuse RADIUS au<strong>the</strong>ntication for <strong>the</strong> PPP connection. For more information, see Managinglogin permissions on page 36.4. Open any standard telnet program on <strong>the</strong> remote computer.5. Open a telnet session to <strong>the</strong> IP address <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> console port on <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong>. The default IPaddress <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> console port is 10.3.0.1 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0. For instructions onhow to change <strong>the</strong> IP address <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> console port (i.e., <strong>the</strong> console interface), seeConfiguring <strong>the</strong> console port for modem use on page 78.6. Configure <strong>the</strong> serial connection on <strong>the</strong> remote computer to match <strong>the</strong> configuration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>console port on <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong>. The console port uses <strong>the</strong> following settings:● baud — 9600● data bits — 8●parity — none● stop bits — 1●flow control — hardwareAccessing CLI via a modem connection to <strong>the</strong> S8300If <strong>the</strong> <strong>Avaya</strong> <strong>G350</strong> <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> includes an S8300 <strong>Media</strong> Server, you can access <strong>the</strong> CLIfrom a remote location by establishing a PPP network connection from a modem at <strong>the</strong> remotelocation to a USB modem connected to <strong>the</strong> one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> USB ports on <strong>the</strong> front panel <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>S8300.Note:Note:In order to access <strong>the</strong> CLI via <strong>the</strong> S8300, <strong>the</strong> PMI <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>G350</strong> must beconfigured.
