Configuration overviewIf you intend to use a USB modem to connect to the G350, you should also assign a new IPaddress to the USB interface. By default, the IP address of the USB interface is 10.3.0.3 with asubnet mask of 255.255.255.0. To assign a new IP address to the USB interface:1. Use the interface USB command to enter the USB context.2. Use the ip address command to define a new IP address for the USB interface. The following example assigns to the USB interface an IP address of 10.3.3.2 with a subnetmask of 255.255.255.0:G350-001(super)# interface USBG350-001(super-if:USB)# ip address 10.3.3.2 255.255.255.0Done!You must also make sure the G350 is properly configured for whichever methods you intend touse for accessing the G350. For information on accessing the G350, see Accessing the AvayaG350 Media Gateway on page 27.Your next step should be to define the other interfaces required by your system specifications.See Defining an interface on page 49.Once you have defined your interfaces, you can define a Primary Management IP address(PMI). The PMI is the IP address which the G350 uses to identify itself when communicatingwith other devices, particularly the Media Gateway Controller (MGC). Management dataintended for the G350 is routed to the interface defined as the PMI. You can use any interfaceas the PMI. For instructions on how to define the PMI, see Configuring the PrimaryManagement Interface (PMI) on page 50.Once you have defined a PMI, you must register the G350 with an MGC. The MGC is a mediaserver that controls telephone services on the G350. The MGC can be internal or external. SeeThe Media Gateway Controller (MGC) on page 52.Once you have performed these steps, the G350 is ready for use. Other configuration tasksmay also have to be performed, but these steps depend on the individual specifications of yourG350 and your network. Most G350 configuration tasks are performed using the Avaya G350 Media Gateway CommandLine Interface (CLI). However, Avaya provides two GUI interfaces that are designed to performthe basic configuration tasks described in this section. These are the Avaya Installation Wizard(Avaya IW) and the Avaya Gateway Installation Wizard (GIW). You can use the Avaya IW or theGIW to set a PMI, enable the console or USB port for modem use, upgrade firmware, andregister the G350 with an MGC. You can then use the CLI to perform ongoing administration.24 Administration of the Avaya G350 Media Gateway
Configuration using CLIConfiguration using CLIYou can use the Avaya G350 Media Gateway Command Line Interface (CLI) to manage theG350. The CLI is a command prompt interface that enables you to type commands and viewresponses. For instructions on how to access the G350 CLI, see Accessing the CLI on page 27.This guide contains information and examples about how to use CLI commands to configure theAvaya G350 Media Gateway. For more information about the G350 CLI and a completedescription of each CLI command, see the Avaya G350 Media Gateway CLI Reference,555-245-202.Configuration using GUI applicationsSeveral Avaya GUI applications enable you to perform some configuration tasks on the AvayaG350 Media Gateway. The Avaya Installation Wizard (Avaya IW) is a web-based installation wizard that leads the userthrough the key configuration steps of a G350 installation. The Avaya IW can be used for initialconfiguration of a G350 with an S8300 installed as the G350’s primary (ICC) or backup (LSP)call controller. For instructions on how to access the Avaya IW, see Accessing Avaya IW onpage 32. For step-by-step instructions on how to configure the G350 using the Avaya IW, seeConfiguring the G350 using the Avaya IW on page 389.The Avaya Gateway Installation Wizard (GIW) is a standalone application that allows the user toperform certain basic G350 configuration tasks. The GIW can be used for initial configuration ofa G350 that does not have an S8300 installed as either the G350’s primary (ICC) or backup(LSP) call controller. For instructions on how to access the GIW, see Accessing GIW onpage 34. For step-by-step instructions on how to configure the G350 using the GIW, seeConfiguring the G350 using the GIW on page 427.You can also use the Avaya G350 Manager to configure most features of the G350. The AvayaG350 Manager is a GUI application. You can access the Avaya G350 Manager from AvayaIntegrated Management software or from a web browser. Most of the commands that areavailable through the G350 CLI are also available through the Avaya G350 Manager.
