Chapter 2:Configuration overviewThis chapter provides an overview of the Avaya G350 Media Gateway configuration processand contains the following sections:●●●●●Installation and setup overview — overview of the G350 installation and setup processConfiguration using CLI — overview of CLI, a command prompt interface for enteringconfiguration commandsConfiguration using GUI applications — overview of GUI applications that can be used forsome configuration tasksSaving configuration changes — instructions on how to save configuration changesFirmware version control — overview of firmware version controlInstallation and setup overviewA new Avaya G350 Media Gateway comes with default configuration settings. There are certainitems that you must configure, according to your system specifications, before using the G350.Configuration of other items depends on the specifications of your network.A new G350 has two IP interfaces for management (SNMP, telnet). These are the consoleinterface and the USB interface. By default, the IP address of the console interface is 10.3.0.1with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. The first thing you should do when configuring a newG350 is to assign a new IP address to the console interface. To do this:1. Use the interface console command to enter the console context.2. Use the ip address command to define a new IP address for the console interface.Note:Note: For more detailed installation instructions, including information on obtaining IPaddresses, refer to Installation and Upgrades for the Avaya G350 MediaGateway, 03-300394.The following example assigns to the console interface an IP address of 10.3.3.1 with a subnetmask of 255.255.255.0:G350-001(super)# interface consoleG350-001(super-if:Console)# ip address 10.3.3.1 255.255.255.0Done!Issue 3 January 2005 23
