Enabling proxy ARPARP table commandsUse <strong>the</strong> following commands to configure <strong>the</strong> ARP table. For more information about <strong>the</strong>secommands, see <strong>Avaya</strong> <strong>G350</strong> <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Gateway</strong> CLI Reference, 555-245-202.●●●●●●Use <strong>the</strong> arp command to add a permanent entry to <strong>the</strong> Address Resolution Protocol(ARP) table. Use <strong>the</strong> no form <strong>of</strong> this command to remove ei<strong>the</strong>r a static entry or adynamically learned entry from <strong>the</strong> ARP table.Use <strong>the</strong> arp timeout command to configure <strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> time, in seconds, that anentry remains in <strong>the</strong> ARP table. Entering <strong>the</strong> arp timeout command without a timeparameter will display <strong>the</strong> current timeout value. Use <strong>the</strong> no form <strong>of</strong> this command torestore <strong>the</strong> default value (four hours).Use <strong>the</strong> clear arp-cache command to delete all dynamic entries from <strong>the</strong> ARP tableand <strong>the</strong> IP route cache.Use <strong>the</strong> ip max-arp-entries command to specify <strong>the</strong> maximum number <strong>of</strong> ARP tableentries allowed in <strong>the</strong> ARP table. Use <strong>the</strong> no form <strong>of</strong> this command to restore <strong>the</strong> defaultvalue.Use <strong>the</strong> show ip arp command to display a list <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ARP resolved MAC to IPaddresses in <strong>the</strong> ARP table.Use <strong>the</strong> show ip reverse-arp command to display <strong>the</strong> IP address <strong>of</strong> a host, based ona known MAC address.Enabling proxy ARPThe <strong>G350</strong> supports proxy ARP. Proxy ARP is a technique by which a router provides a falseidentity when answering ARP requests intended for ano<strong>the</strong>r device. By falsifying its identify, <strong>the</strong>router accepts responsibility for routing packets to <strong>the</strong>ir true destination.Proxy ARP can help devices on a subnet to reach remote subnets without <strong>the</strong> need to configurerouting or a default gateway.To enable proxy ARP on a <strong>G350</strong> interface, use <strong>the</strong> ip proxy-arp command. Use <strong>the</strong> no form<strong>of</strong> this command to disable proxy ARP on an interface.Issue 3 January 2005 189
