Classifying a port asvaluable means that a link fault trap is sent in <strong>the</strong> event <strong>of</strong> a link failure. The trap is sent evenwhen <strong>the</strong> port is disabled. This feature is particularly useful for <strong>the</strong> port redundancy application,where you need to be informed about a link failure on <strong>the</strong> dormant port.Note:Note:The 1GB port is classified as valuable by default.Port classification CLI commandsUse <strong>the</strong> following commands to configure port classification. Any change in <strong>the</strong> Spanning Tree state from Forwarding for a valuableport will erase all learned MAC addresses in <strong>the</strong> switch.Use <strong>the</strong> show port classification command to display a port’s classification.Issue 3 January 2005 149
