Each 8701interface module incorporates microcomputer chiptechnology and its sophisticated bi-directionalcommunication capabilities with the control panel.DescriptionThe 8701 is designed to monitor a normally opendry contact and reports the contact’s status to thecontrol panel. The device’s microcomputer chip has the capacityof storing, in memory, identification information aswell as important operating status information.FARADAY innovative technology allows all 8701intelligent interface modules to be programmed byusing the 8720 Device Program/Test Unit. The 8720is a compact, portable, menu driven accessory thatmakes programming and testing an interfacedevice faster, easier and more dependable thanprevious methods. The 8720 eliminates the needfor mechanical addressing mechanisms, such asprogram jumpers, DIP switches or rotary dials, because it electronically sets the 8701 interface’saddress into the interface’s microcomputer chipnon-volatile memory. Vibration, corrosion andother conditions that deteriorate mechanicaladdressing mechanisms are no longer a cause forconcern. This 8701 is connected to the program/tester with the programming cable provided withthe tester. This programming cable utilizes two (2)alligator clip connectors to attach to the 8701.The 8701 Series has five leads, one for grounding, which are wired to the system with user suppliedwire nuts.9610

The 8701 is fully compatible on the same circuitwith detectors, addressable manual stations or anyaddressable intelligent modules. All 8701 intelligent interface modules have beenUL and ULC Listed.Environmental operating conditions for all 8701modules are 32 o F ( o C) to 120 o F (49 o C) with arelative humidity of not greater than 93%non-condensating.Ordering InformationElectrical RatingsCurrent Draw (Active or Standby): 1mASiemens Building Technologies, Inc.8 Fernwood Road • Florham Park, NJ 07932Tel: (973) 593-2600 • Fax: (973) 593-6670Web: www.faradayfirealarms.com12/04 2M SBT/IGWARNING- The information contained in this document is intended only as a summary andis subject to change without notice.
