Also, adjectives formed from geographic names are written with smallletters, e.g. tatrzański, przemyski, dąbrowski, nakielski, unless they arecomponents of a geographic name e.g. Maków Mazowiecki, WyżynaMałopolska, Jezioro Rajgrodzkie.Certain adjectives are formed in a way differing from thepattern: e.g. the adjective formed from the name of Kolno has the formkolneński; similarly Krosno – krośnieński and Kępno – kępiński(without -e-), whereas regularly formed adjectives from the namesending with –no have the form ending with the formant –eński: e.g.Wilno – wileński, Grodno – grodzieński, Grzybno – grzybieński,Sławno – sławieński, Mogilno – mogileński. Also, the followingirregularly formed adjectives should be noticed: górowski (from Góra,but: Jelenia Góra – jeleniogórski, Kamienna Góra – kamiennogórski),rycki – from Ryki, niżański – from Nisko, konecki – from Końskie,leszczyński – from Leszno, suski – from Sucha Beskidzka.Hyphen UseThe hyphen is used only in the case of names composed of twopreviously existing names, e.g. Bielsko-Biała, Skarżysko-Kamienna,Kanał Wieprz-Krzna.Also, two equivalent elements of a multiword adjectivalgeographic name are also divided by a hyphen, e.g. WyżynaKrakowsko-Częstochowska, Pojezierze Chełmińsko-Dobrzyńskie.Spelling of Adjectives formedfrom Multiword Geographic Namesa. Adjectives formed from two-word geographic names are spelledas a single word if a noun exists in a name, e.g. nowomiejski fromNowe Miasto, dolnośląski from Dolny Śląsk, zduńskowolski fromZduńska Wola and also zachodniopomorski from Pomorze Zachodnie,and śródziemnomorski from Morze Śródziemne.b. In certain cases adjectives are formed only from the nounal partof such names, e.g. opolski from Opole Lubelskie, średzki from ŚrodaŚląska, sępoleński from Sępólno Krajeńskie.20
