Page 4 of 4School NewsletterSeasonal Influenza (Flu) Information The Health Office is a busy place, and I just wantedto remind parents that if your child is ill in the morning or has a “fever” please do not send him orher to school. I see many students as early as 7:50 with complaints of illness, only to have themtell me that they were sick when the left home. Remember if your child is ill he is contagious andthat is not fair to his classmates. The classroom can be a breeding ground for germs that causecold and flu. With so many children in one place and sharing supplies, it's no wonder. The fluvaccine was administered to 579 students; 68 parents signed waivers and 31 parents provided noresponse to the numerous messages that have been sent home. Please take the time to read theinformation below so that we can continue to have a healthy school environment.Influenza (the Flu) is a seasonal contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses.Common flu symptoms may include:Fever ∙ Headaches ∙ Cough ∙ Body Aches ∙ Sore Throat ∙ Chills ∙ Fatigue ∙ Runny or Stuffy NoseThe Child Development Center recommends that everyone, 6 months of age and older, get heryearly flu vaccine now. Just a reminder, the Flu vaccine is a condition of enrollment at all DoDschools. A letter of exemption can be signed if you elect not to have your child vaccinated. Inthe event of an epidemic, for the protection of others, the exempt student will have to be excludedfrom school. The Flu virus is mainly spread through droplets from coughs and sneezes. Remember theseimportant everyday steps to help stop the spread of germs:cover your cough with a sleeve or tissuewash your hands oftenstay home if you are sickNo more excuses—you need a flu vaccineYou can still get the Flu vaccine at the Stuttgart Immunization Clinic. An appointment is notnecessary. You only need to report to the appointment desk at the Stuttgart Clinic, tell them thatyou are there for the Flu vaccine, and they will direct you to the Immunization clinic. Their hoursare 8-3, Mon-Thurs. and 8-11:00 on Friday. If you receive the vaccine at the Clinic, please askfor a copy of the vaccine form to provide to the school nurse, Mrs. KA, at 0711-680-4030 orDSN 430-4030.Every Friday is Spirit Day at PES!
