The highest transportation volume in the district indicates theworkplace Varín, which is being prepared for train certification.Limestone from carrier Dolvap, s. r. o., Varín is loaded here. The latesttransportation in CFT is the transportation of automobiles from theKMS plant in Teplička nad Váhom. Also the private siding activities areperformed for this company in the centre.ŽilinaKontaktŽelezničná spoločnosť Cargo Slovakia, a. s.Oblastná prepravná správa ŽilinaStredisko nákladnej prepravy ŽilinaHviezdoslavova 21, 010 01, ŽilinaPrednostka Ing. Žilina is an important rail trafficjunction, which connects rail tracks of international and regionalimportance. Therefore, provision of rail transportation requiresa highly professional and flexible approach of all CFT employees totheir work. This includes good and professional cooperation withother carriers and the Manager of rail infrastructure – ŽelezniceSlovenskej Republiky (The Railways of the Slovak Republic - ŽSR) .In Žilina, we may come across transportation of virtually all types ofcommodities transported by rail. CFT Žilina covers the following tariffpoints: Žilina, Varín, Bytčica, Lietavská Lúčka, Konská pri Rajci, Rajec,Dolný Hričov, Bytča. The centre is the head office of train crews of freighttraffic, which operate handling trains in track sections Žilina – Rajec,Žilina – Púchov, Žilina – Čadca and Čadca – Makov. All activities necessary for provision of rail operation are performedin CFT Žilina. The centre is responsible for wagon ordering, handing in ofwagons to the carrier and taking over of wagons from the carriers, cashoffice activities, activities related to complaints, weighing of wagons onstatic-dynamic wagon weighbridge, adjustments of loads, lending ofwagon sheets, activities of customs agent and train crews activities.Scrap stealingCurrently, the employees of CFT Žilina are highly concerned aboutthe transportation of iron scrap due to stealing of goods. Provision ofgoods against theft is difficult, since open wagons of Eas, Eaos, Eanosseries are used for transportation. These thefts were initially observed only in the marshalling yard Žilina, where the thieves had enough time to steal during a long stay of.The efforts to solve the issue operatively by means of shortening ofperiod when the wagons were staying in the station were not sufficientthough. Even temporary stopping of train due to traffic reasons(stopping in front of the entry signal) can be misused by thieves tosteal scrap from the wagon. Usually, they open up the wagon doorregardless to jeopardy of rail traffic safety. In cooperation with ŽSR,the centre avoids stealing from handling trains, by allowing theirdirect entry in the station or their stopping in front of the entry signalin locations with lower probability of thefts. This solution can only leadto elimination of thefts, but not to their removal. Other solution couldbe the execution of certain adjustments on wagons, since the stairs onthe wagon front, which should serve for the employees, are misused bythird parties for an easy access to goods. Monitoring of risky locationsof the station by camera system would be beneficial as well. This isa serious matter for rail traffic, particularly due to safety jeopardy, but also due to harm of company´s reputation. Therefore, the issueof scrap stealing from railway wagons has to be resolved, taking intoconsideration all complex aspects.Railway in Žilina has existed for 137 yearsThe oldest written reference of Žilina dates back to 1208, even thougha Slovak settlement surely existed here before the 13th century. Žilinais the first town in Slovakia, where administrative municipal authoritieswere represented by Slovaks and the privilege of Louis I., dated 1381,directly ordered the parity representation of Slovaks and Germans inthe town council. From the geographic point of view, Žilina has had a strategic locationin the field of transport for a long time. In history of Žilina, we maycome across various traffic modes (road, river, air and rail). Railhistory of Žilina had its starting point in construction of Košice– Bohumín rail track. In February 1871, the operation on rail trackČeský Těšín – Žilina commenced and in December 1871, the operationstarted on track Žilina – Poprad.Due to operational and economic reasons, on the main track fromKošice to Bratislava, in the half of the 20th century, the first electrifiedsection was the section from Žilina to Spišská Nová Ves. The first trainwith electrical locomotive came to Vrútky on August 29, 1953 and wasdriven by an engine driver from Žilina.ContactŽelezničná spoločnosť Cargo Slovakia, a. s.Regional transport office ŽilinaCentre of freight traffic ŽilinaHviezdoslavova 21, 010 01, ŽilinaHead of CFT: Ing.
