As a consequence ofthese changes, regional estimates for sub-Saharan Africa published in 2009 and earliereditions of The State of the World’s Childrenare not strictly comparable with thosepublished in this issue.Asia includes all countries and territories ofSouth Asia, and East Asia and the Pacific.Industrialized countries/territories are definedas those not included in the UNICEF RegionalClassification.Developing countries/territories are classifiedas such for purposes of statistical analysisonly. There is no established convention forthe designation of ‘developed’ and ‘developing’countries or areas in the United Nationssystem.Least developed countries/territories arethose countries and territories classified assuch by the United Nations.UNICEF REGIONAL CLASSIFICATIONAfricaSub-Saharan Africa; North Africa (Algeria, Egypt,Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Morocco, Tunisia)Sub-Saharan AfricaEastern and Southern Africa; West and CentralAfrica; Djibouti and the SudanEastern and Southern AfricaAngola; Botswana; Burundi; Comoros; Eritrea;Ethiopia; Kenya; Lesotho; Madagascar;Malawi; Mauritius; Mozambique; Namibia;Rwanda; Seychelles; Somalia; South Africa;Swaziland; Uganda; United Republicof Tanzania; Zambia; ZimbabweWest and Central AfricaBenin; Burkina Faso; Cameroon; Cape Verde;Central African Republic; Chad; Congo; Côted’Ivoire; Democratic Republic of the Congo;Equatorial Guinea; Gabon; Gambia; Ghana;Guinea; Guinea-Bissau; Liberia; Mali;Mauritania; Niger; Nigeria; Sao Tome andPrincipe; Senegal; Sierra Leone; TogoMiddle East and North AfricaAlgeria; Bahrain; Djibouti; Egypt; Iran (IslamicRepublic of); Iraq; Jordan; Kuwait; Lebanon;Libyan Arab Jamahiriya; Morocco; OccupiedPalestinian Territory; Oman; Qatar; SaudiArabia; Sudan; Syrian Arab Republic; Tunisia;United Arab Emirates; YemenAsiaSouth Asia; East Asia and the PacificSouth AsiaAfghanistan; Bangladesh; Bhutan; India;Maldives; Nepal; Pakistan; Sri LankaEast Asia and PacificBrunei Darussalam; Cambodia; China; CookIslands; Democratic People’s Republic ofKorea; Fiji; Indonesia; Kiribati; Lao People’sDemocratic Republic; Malaysia; MarshallIslands; Micronesia (Federated States of);Mongolia; Myanmar; Nauru; Niue; Palau;Papua New Guinea; Philippines; Republic ofKorea; Samoa; Singapore; Solomon Islands;Thailand; Timor-Leste; Tonga; Tuvalu; Vanuatu;Viet NamLatin America and CaribbeanAntigua and Barbuda; Argentina; Bahamas;Barbados; Belize; Bolivia (Plurinational Stateof); Brazil; Chile; Colombia; Costa Rica; Cuba;Dominica; Dominican Republic; Ecuador;El Salvador; Grenada; Guatemala; Guyana;Haiti; Honduras; Jamaica; Mexico;Nicaragua; Panama; Paraguay; Peru; SaintKitts and Nevis; Saint Lucia; Saint Vincentand the Grenadines; Suriname; Trinidad andTobago; Uruguay; Venezuela (BolivarianRepublic of)CEE/CISAlbania; Armenia; Azerbaijan; Belarus;Bosnia and Herzegovina; Bulgaria;Croatia; Georgia; Kazakhstan; Kyrgyzstan;Montenegro; Republic of Moldova; Romania;Russian Federation; Serbia; Tajikistan; Theformer Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia;Turkey; Turkmenistan; Ukraine; UzbekistanUNICEF COUNTRY CLASSIFICATIONIndustrialized countries/territoriesAndorra; Australia; Austria; Belgium;Canada; Cyprus; Czech Republic; Denmark;Estonia; Finland; France; Germany; Greece;Holy See; Hungary; Iceland; Ireland; Israel;Italy; Japan; Latvia; Liechtenstein; Lithuania;Luxembourg; Malta; Monaco; Netherlands;New Zealand; Norway; Poland; Portugal;San Marino; Slovakia; Slovenia; Spain;Sweden; Switzerland; United Kingdom;United StatesDeveloping countries/territoriesAfghanistan; Algeria; Angola; Antigua andBarbuda; Argentina; Armenia; Azerbaijan;Bahamas; Bahrain; Bangladesh; Barbados;Belize; Benin; Bhutan; Bolivia (PlurinationalState of); Botswana; Brazil; BruneiDarussalam; Burkina Faso; Burundi;Cambodia; Cameroon; Cape Verde; CentralAfrican Republic; Chad; Chile; China;Colombia; Comoros; Congo; Cook Islands;Costa Rica; Côte d’Ivoire; Cuba; Cyprus;Democratic Republic of the Congo;Democratic People’s Republic of Korea;Djibouti; Dominica; Dominican Republic;Ecuador; Egypt; El Salvador; EquatorialGuinea; Eritrea; Ethiopia; Fiji; Gabon; Gambia;Georgia; Ghana; Grenada; Guatemala;Guinea; Guinea-Bissau; Guyana; Haiti;Honduras; India; Indonesia; Iran (IslamicRepublic of); Iraq; Israel; Jamaica; Jordan;Kazakhstan; Kenya; Kiribati; Kuwait;Kyrgyzstan; Lao People’s DemocraticRepublic; Lebanon; Lesotho; Liberia; Libyan124THE STATE OF THE WORLD’S CHILDREN 2011
