Conditions of enrolmentFees1. All fees, charges and accounts are payable in advance as determinedby FIC from time to time. Students will not be permitted to commenceor continue their program at the beginning of any semesteruntil all outstanding fees, charges and accounts are paid.2. Fees are correct at the time of printing. FIC reserves theright to vary its fees at any time without notice.3. Where a student studies less than or more than a full semester load, thestudent will pay the current per course fee for each course undertaken.4. Should it be necessary for the student to repeata course, the full amount is payable.5. Any overpayment of fees will remain credited towards a student’saccount and applied against charges in a subsequent semester unlessthe student has completed, cancelled or withdrawn from their program.6. No refunds are given for tuition fees unless the student hascompleted, cancelled or withdrawn from their program.Study Permit conditions1. For specific information on Study Permit Conditions refer to www.cic.gc.ca2. Study Permits are usually issued for the period of the program.Students wishing to extend their Study Permit should firstconsult FIC for assistance. Students must apply for a new StudyPermit before expiration of their current Study Permit.3. FIC will provide mandatory twelve (12) months of medicalcoverage upon arrival in Canada. At the end of the twelve(12) months, students will have the option to extend the initialcoverage or apply for the BC Medical Services Plan.Other conditions1. The student is expected to attend all classes, undertake alltests and examinations during a program, and abide by allrules and regulations of FIC that are in force at any time.2. The contract between the applicant and FIC is governed bythe laws of Canada and the Province of British Columbia.3. FIC may, by written notice, vary the conditions of enrollment asmay be necessary to comply with any law, regulation or amendmentthereof, of Canada or the Province of British Columbia.4. In the event of circumstances requiring urgent medical care and whereit is not possible to contact the parent/guardian, FIC is authorized asa matter of urgency to seek and provide appropriate medical care.5. International students must meet the minimum English languagerequirements for entry to the program. Applicants mustprovide recognized English assessment results and if the testreveals insufficient English language skills, the student willbe required to enrol in one Academic English language coursein the first term of study, or to enrol in an intensive Englishlanguage program prior to the commencement of studies.DeferralStudent can defer their program start date a maximum of two times.Subsequent requests for deferral will result in the student needing to re-apply.Deferral requests must be made in writing. If a student wishes to defer theiradmission until a later term, FIC will hold the fees paid until commencementwithout levying a penalty. If the student subsequently withdraws, the FeeRefund Policy will apply as at the date FIC was advised in writing of theirwithdrawal. FIC reserves the right to apply the Fee Refund Policy to the dateof the initial deferral. FIC reserves the right to not approve deferral requests.Deferral after enrolmentContinuing students wishing to defer their program after enrollmentand within the first four (4) weeks of program commencement, willhave any fees paid transferred to the next semester. If the studentssubsequently withdraws, the Fee Refund Policy applied from the dateFIC received advice regarding the leave of absence. If the studentapplies for a leave of absence from the fifth week of the semester,their place will be held but all tuition fees applicable to that absencewill only be approved for illness or compassionate reasons.Students in their first term of study may not defer their program afterenrollment.Fee Refund Policy1. For the purposes of this Fee Refund Policy, term fees are definedas one full-time term of study in any program at FIC.2. If an applicant accepts a place offered by FIC and pays the fees,a binding contract is created between the student and FIC.3. Notification of cancellation or withdrawal from course(s), or withdrawalor deferral from a program of study must be made in writing to FIC.4. Students who dispute FIC’s decision regarding a refund, have accessto an independent grievance resolution process. This does notcircumscribe the student’s right to pursue other legal remedies ortake further action under Canada’s consumer protection laws.5. In case of cancellation or withdrawal, the cancellation fee (andadministration charge if relevant) will be calculated as shown in thetable below.6. In case of deferral, the fees will be retained by FIC untilrecommencement of studies. If the student subsequentlywithdraws, the Fee Refund Policy will apply as at the date FIC wasadvised in writing of their withdrawal. FIC reserves the right toapply the Fee Refund Policy to the date of the initial deferral.7. Where a Study Permit renewal is rejected due to a breach in StudyPermit conditions, a student must withdraw from FIC and thecancellation fee will be calculated as shown in the table below.8. Students whose enrollment is terminated by FIC will not be entitled toany refund of fees. Any fee refund is wholly at the discretion of FIC.9. FIC reserves the right to withdraw a program or course(s) from offerat its discretion. If a student is unable to enroll in a similar programor course(s) at FIC and the enrollment is cancelled, all fees will berefunded with the exception of a C$235 administration fee.10. All refunds under this Fee Refund Policy will be paid within four(4) weeks of receiving a written claim from the student.11.
