Trouble ShootingMarker does not recock: Ifyou fire the <strong>Rebel</strong><strong>Deluxe</strong> and it does notrecock by itself, removeyour air source and disassemble the gun (after you’ve made surethat your C02 tank has enough gas). Look for debris wedgedbetween the upper bolt and the breach. free your marker of anydebris, and re-lubricate all of your o-rings. Now reassemble yourmarker and you should be ready to go. Be sure to check and seeif the connecting pin is still in place. Sometimes the connectingpin will shift up or down and “lock” the bolt and hammer.Low velocity: The first thing you’ll need to do (after you makesure your C02 tank is not empty or low) is to check the velocityadjusting screw located in the rear of the hammer plug. Toincrease the velocity, turn the screw clockwise and re-chronographthe gun. Still shooting low? Check to make sure the gun isclean and lubricated internally. Look for debris on or around thebolt/hammer assembly and clean if necessary. Another possiblecause of velocity problems with the <strong>Rebel</strong> <strong>Deluxe</strong> is a weakstriker spring. You may need to order a stiffer or longer spring. Ifall else fails, you can place a spacer between the velocityadjusting screw and spring guide.Air leaking out of the barrel: You will need to replace your cup seal,the cup seal is your number four and five piece. To replace thecup seal remove your gas connector, valve spring, and existingcup seal. Replace the cup seal and reassemble.(Tech Tip) Cup seals leaking are a common problem among blowback style markers.Excessive ball breakage: Ball Breakage is usually the result ofhigh velocity,weather, dirty marker, paint, or bore size.High Velocity: Be sure that your marker is shooting below290 (fps) feet per second. High velocity is a common causeof ball breakage.Weather: Cold weather can make paintballs brittle allowingfor more ball breakage. Hot weather can cause paint toexpand an therefore your paint will be torn through yourbarrelDirty Marker: Remember a clean marker is a happy marker.Dirty components will usually result in ball breakage.Paint:Old paint or lower end paints can sometimes be thecause of ball breakage.Check your paintballs for flat spots,color fading, etc.Bore Size: Your barrels bore size plays a large part in shootingaccurate and limiting ball breakage. So be sure to usethe proper size barrel. Sometimes the aluminum barrel caneasily be damaged which can cause the barrel to bend, andcould lead to ball breakage.Inconsistent velocity: Velocity can be effected by the listgiven above. Be sure that your marker is clean and lubricatedand remember Co2 is affected by temperature thereforwhen using this gas allow for expansion and contraction.High velocity: High Velocity is usually the result of expandedC02 or broken paint in your barrel. To help maintain a consistentvelocity be sure your marker is clear of all debris inboth the lower and upper chambers.(Tech Tip) If using Co2 as your power source we recommendan expansion chamber to help stabilize a very activegas.


<strong>Rebel</strong> deluxe Tips1. Never leave your C02 tank in the sun or heat.Co2 is a volatile gas that is greatly affected bytemperature.More on C02...Double feeding paintballs: If your <strong>Rebel</strong> <strong>Deluxe</strong> is doublefeeding, you’ve probably lost the ball detent. A newone will almost certainly fix the problem. If not, yourpaint is probably very small. To replace the ball detentsimply remove recoil spring cover. Then remove theold ball detent and replace with a new one.Double firing on one trigger pull: This can becaused by liquid C02 in the valve. If your double firingproblem is not caused by liquid C02, inspect your triggersear and be sure to remove any debris in the triggerassembly. This will most likely solve double firing.If double firing persists check the lower bolt o-ring.The gun fires but no paint comes out: Make surethe power feed plug is turned the right direction.Check your paint for swollen balls. This will cause thegun to misfeed. Never pick paint up off of the ground.It will cause more problems than you could imagine.Understanding the Characteristics of C02Understanding the characteristics of C02 is a bit moredifficult than it sounds. C02 is a volatile gas, orshould I say substance compared to other gassesused in <strong>Paintball</strong>. The fact that C02 can convert fromgas to liquid and visa versa easily is a real problem for<strong>Paintball</strong> players and their equipment. C02 is greatlyaffected by temperature changes. In fact, a properlyfilled C02 tank will have an internal pressure of about850 pounds per square inch (psi) in 70 degree (F)temperatures. A temperature increase of one degreewill cause the pressure in your tank to rise by 11 psi.So if you’re playing in a cool summer morning ofabout 70 degrees, when the hot afternoontemperature comes your tank pressure can rise 400+psi with no trouble at all. This will probably causeyour gun to shoot "hot." Possibly even dangerouslyhigh. Let’s take a closer look at why C02 is a realproblem for <strong>Paintball</strong> players.Why your tank "chills" when you rapid fire: Have youever noticed that when you rapid fire your paint gunfor any length of time, your C02 tank gets cold oreven "frosted"? What happens next is a real pain --your velocity drops off. Here’s why. When you rapidfire your paint gun, you are using a large amount of


C02 quickly. Your tankgets cold because the liquidC02 inside is changinginto gas to replacethe C02 used duringrapid firing. This changefrom liquid to gas iscalled a change of phase.When you fire your gun (with a chilled tank), you are releasingless C02 than if the tank was warm.Velocity Spikes: If you are shooting a regular (gas) C02 tank andyou point the gun downward, you will notice frost coming outof your barrel. With some guns (Automag, Autococker, etc.) youwill quickly render your gun unusable if this happens. If liquidC02 gets into your gun’s valve, you will usually get velocityspikes. Let’s take a look at why this happens. The liquid and gasC02 in your tank is always the exact same pressure because yourtank is a "closed system". The pressure in your gun’s valve willalso be the same pressure. The exception to this rule is if you areusing a pressure regulator on your gun. When liquid gets intothe gun valve, your velocity will spike because you are hittingthe paintball with more C02. In other words, the C02 in thevalve is of a much greater weight than if it were in a gaseousstate.2. C02 works fine for paintball guns, but if you’re looking forhigh performance, you may want to look at purchasing a highpressure system.About high pressure (nitrogen and compressed air)When someone refers to high pressure in regards to paintball,they generally are speaking about nitrogen or compressed air.For <strong>Paintball</strong> purposes both arethe same. A high pressure system can be filled witheither nitrogen from a bulk tank, or compressed airfrom a compressor or a scuba tank that was filledfrom a compressor. The reason these systems arecalled high pressure systems is that they are filled (bypressure, not by weight as with C02) to 3000 - 4500600-800 psi outgoing pressure. This means that aconstant pressure flow to your gun can be safelyachieved.The advantages of high pressure: Nitrogen andcompressed air have virtually the samecharacteristics. Compressed air is the air that youbreath every day that is compressed into a higherpressure than its normal state. Compressed air isaround 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. Undernormal conditions, nitrogen and compressed air areunaffected by temperature changes and fluctuations.Unlike C02 which boils at about 89 degreesFahrenheit, nitrogen boils at the very hightemperature of 196 degrees Celsius.So for paintball, no matter how hot or cold it gets thegun will be supplied with consistent pressure from theregulated tank (assuming your equipment is workingproperly). This means that your velocity will staymuch more consistent than you’ve come to expectappealing to <strong>Paintball</strong> players than C02. Anotheradvantage with high pressure is that you do not haveyou don’t have to chill the tank to fill it. To get acomplete fill however, you need to fill to 3000 psi,wait a few minutes for the tank pressure to stabilize,


and top off with 300 -400 psi. There aremany more smalleradvantages to usinghigh pressure--Highpressure systemsallow you to play allyear, where as C02 does not really work well in any gun inthe extreme cold. What happens if you burst a hose ordamage your system using high pressure is actually lessdangerous than the more volatile C02. Again we’ll coverthat one in the next chapter.3. Use only oil designed for paintball guns in your<strong>Rebel</strong>.The primary function of oil in regards to your paint gunis to reduce friction in the moving internalcomponents. This will minimize the wear of the partswhile increasing the speed and smoothness of theoperation. If you are going to use an oil that is notspecifically designed for paint guns there are someimportant issues to look at. First, the temperature ofliquid C02 is somewhere in the -50 to -60 degreeCelsius range. You’ll need an oil that does notthicken in that temperature range. Motor oil forinstance, is designed to work in hot temperatures andwill thicken in the cold. This will cause the internalparts of your gun to slow down or even cease. The"thickness" of an oil is called viscosity. Some oilstend to have viscosity break-down in extreme hot orcold temperatures--some do not. There is actually aviscosity index which will tell you how "durable" an oilis in hot or cold temperature. Paint gun oil should have aviscosity index of 300+ and should be able to handletemperatures of -60 to +60 degrees C.Special NoteThe <strong>Rebel</strong> <strong>Deluxe</strong> features a wide assortment of add-onsthat would usually require additional purchases.
