Note: Instruction for Examiner:The Semester examination in each theory subject shall be of 50 marks. The examiner will setnine questions. Student will attempt five questions. The study of mathematics is important as all theequations used in pharmacokinetics and pharmaco-dynamics are in the mathematical formsand studies of such results are in logarithmic and integration forms.UNIT IMatrices and Determinants: Definition of matrix, types of matrices, arithmeticoperations on matrices, determinants and its expansion, important properties ofdeterminants, solutions of simultaneous equations by Cramer’s rule.Differentiation: Concepts of functions, limits and differentiation; differentiation ofstandard functions (without using first principle), including function of a function(chain rule), differentiation of implicit functions, logarithmic differentiation,parametric differentiation, elements of successive differentiation.UNIT IIIntegration: Integration as inverse of differentiation, indefinite integrals of standardfunctions, integration- by parts and substitution methods, formal evaluation of definiteintegrals.Differential equations: definition, formation and solution of ordinary differentialequations of first order and first degree (variable separable technique only).Laplace transforms: definition, properties of linearity and shifting, transforms ofelementary function (without proof) and inverse Laplace transforms not involvingEuler’s theorem.UNIT IIIMeasures of central tendency and dispersion: Requisites of an ideal measure,arithmetic mean, median, mode, range, mean deviation, standard deviation,coefficients of variation.Linear correlation: Bi-variant data scatter diagrams, correlation, types of correlation,Karl Pearson’s and Spearman’s methods, coefficients of correlation and its importantproperties (without proof).Linear regression: Regression, method of least squares, lines of regression,regression coefficients and their important properties (without proof).UNIT IVProbability: Events, classical and statistical definitions of probabilities, addition andmultiplication laws of probability, conditional probability, Bayer’s theorem (statementonly) and its applications.69
