Knowledge about different organic molecules, their use inpharmacy <strong>and</strong> basic Terms <strong>and</strong> techniques in organic chemistry are highlighted.UNIT-IStructure <strong>and</strong> properties: Atomic structure, atomic orbital, molecular orbital, hybridization,sigma & pi bond, covalent, electrovalent & co-ordinate bond, inductive effect, resonance,Classification <strong>and</strong> Nomenclature of organic compounds.UNIT-IIIsomerism, geometric isomerism, stereochemistry including optical activity, stereoisomerism,specification of configuration & conformational analysis, Organometallic Compounds-Grignard reagent organo-lithium compounds, their preparation & synthetic application.UNIT-IIIImportant methods of preparation, reactions with special reference to mechanism of thefollowing classes of compounds: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes & dienes, free radical substitutionreaction, alkyl halides, alcohols.UNIT-IVAromatic compound ,aromatic character, structure of benzene, resonance, orientation ofaromatic substitution, arenes ,amines (aliphatic & aromatic), phenols, aryl halides.Aldehydes & ketones (aliphatic & aromatic), carboxylic acids &their derivatives, di &tricarboxylic acids , hydroxy acids.Note: Instruction for Examiner:The Semester examination in each theory subject shall be of 50 marks. The examiner will setnine questions. Student will attempt five questions. First question would be of short answertype question covering all four Units (2.5 Marks per Unit) & it would be compulsory. Twoquestions will be set from each unit & out of which c<strong>and</strong>idate will attempt one question. EachQuestion shall be of 10 marks.36
