Land Vorarlberg! 

Since the establishment of the full service agency in autumn 

2003, Convention Partner Vorarlberg (CPV) has been quite busy. 

Meanwhile CPV has participated in the organization of approximately 

40 per cent of all congresses and conferences in 

Vorarlberg. We owe this success to our professional team, who 

is experienced in the organization of events, and a number of 

practical tools that make your and our life easier. 

In this brochure we present a number of professional partners 

to you: the three congress centres in Bregenz, Dornbirn and 

Feldkirch, the Haus der Messe in Dornbirn, selected conference

INTRODUCTION: THE PROVINCE 

Festivals of world renown, the surprisingly vivid 

cultural scene, and internationally successful 

businesses not only set standards but also demand 

standards that are a good bit above average. 

Vorarlberg knows how to present itself with the 

right combination of precision and creative ideas. 

Also speaking for Vorarlberg as a conference location is: 

Its central location in the four-country-corner between Austria, 

Switzerland, Germany and the Principality of Liechtenstein. 

Its good accessibility by car, railway and airplane. The nearest 

airport with international connections is the Bodensee-Airport 

Friedrichshafen, only a half hour drive from Bregenz. The airports 

Zurich and Munich are approx. 1.5 hours away by car, the 

regional airport St. Gallen-Altenrhein is just half an hour away. 

The high standards of the hotel trade and gastronomy. With 

approximately 160 5 - and 4-star hotels as well as 310 3-star 

establishments the region boasts some 23,000 beds. 

Numerous family-run hotels offer conference and seminar 

rooms. Large congresses are coordinated in close co-operation 

with hotels in nearby Germany and in Switzerland. 

Vorarlberg’s cuisine is considered among the best in all of 

Austria: 49 restaurants have been toque-awarded by the 

gourmet guide Gault Millau. The province boasts numerous 

traditional inns as well.

The scenic variety on a small area, with lakes, gorges, mountains, 

lively towns and cosy villages. 

The innumerable possibilities for social programmes in the 

summer and winter – skiing in the world-famous skiing areas 

at the Arlberg or the Montafon, hiking with a traditional 

round of "Kässpätzle" (cheese dumplings), canyoning, rafting, 

cruises on Lake Constance, exploring the modern architecture 

of Vorarlberg are but a few of the possibilities. 

The cultural programme: Vorarlberg is setting for numerous 

events all year round, for example the Bregenz Spring Dance 

Festival (March to May), the Feldkirch Festival (June), the 

Bregenz Festival (July/August) or the Schubertiade Hohenems 

(Winter) and Schwarzenberg (July, August/September).

When Mariss Jansons conducts in the Festspielhaus 

Bregenz, when Philip Arlaud directs a play at 

the Montforthaus in Feldkirch, when plays are 

staged in the Kulturhaus Dornbirn and the Haus 

der Messe in Dornbirn transforms into an international 

meeting point, then greatest precision is in 

demand-- from the first to the last second. 

Curtains up! 

There are many individual factors that contribute to the success 

of conferences and meetings. If one lists them, one would 

quickly arrive at terms used in the theatre scene as well. It is 

the job of the dramaturgy to ensure that the arc of suspense 

and highlights are well thought out and well placed. The production 

must be consistent, must suit the occasion, and must 

give the respective requests the right priorities. What a difference 

in atmosphere alone the seating arrangement, lighting, 

or acoustics can make! 

Business meets culture 

How practical to be able to rely on the know-how of professional 

partners, such as the Messe Dornbirn and the three 

congress centres in Vorarlberg, which are also cultural 

centres. The teams look back on years of experience in not only 

fulfilling the precise requirements of conference and meeting 

organizers – but also exceeding them. They are also specializ-

orchestras, directors and artists from all branches and from 

all over the world. And in order to fulfill these tasks a high 

measure of flexibility, a wealth of ideas and a joy in imaginative

broadcasts in radio and television take place, state-of-the-art 

technical facilities are a matter of course. 

Creative conventions 

In this sense the three Vorarlberg congress houses have long 

been practicing what has increasingly been gaining significance 

under the term "creative industries". Here the economy 

profits from the know-how of the culture and creative 

industry – and vice versa, of course. The Vorarlberg congress 

houses have hence developed their own discipline – "Creative 

Conventions" so to speak.

The Magic of Performance 

Since its renovation in 2006 the Festspielhaus 

boasts a new, extraordinary design with optimised 

technology and modern furnishings. The house is a 

successful composition of glass, steel, wood and 

concrete. The light, glass entrance area and the 

strict, black outer façade of the workshop stage 

complement each other perfectly. 

The building is functional and aesthetic inside and 

out. Well thought-out presentation areas place 

theatre performances of all kinds in the best light. 

Each room has a new design. Up to 2150 persons can 

be accommodated. The festival hall is supported by 

a team that loves and celebrates the high art of stage 

production. In 2004 it was awarded the APEX-Award 

by the AIPC – International Association of Congress 

Centres as one of the three best congress centres of 

the world.

Convenient location: 

The Montforthaus lies in the heart of the medieval 

city center of Feldkirch with its paved lanes and 

arcades. The house has been ISO-certified since 

1996, and captivates with its ability to transform. 

The rooms can accommodate up to 1,100 persons.

Place of innovation 

Dornbirn is meeting place. The largest city of Vorarlberg, 

an important business location, popular shopping city 

and city for students. The ambiance - modern, young and 

vibrant. A place of diverse meetings. Like the Kulturhaus

central at the outskirts of the city center. 

The innovative team stages productions at "its" Kulturhaus 

all year round, setting impulses, effects, composing

The Messe Dornbirn and its team are the 

epitome of pleasure and success. The new “Haus 

der Messe” is a unique meeting point in the fourcountry 

corner. Whether large-scale congresses 

with accompanying exhibitions, concerts, festivities, 

company presentations or TV broadcasts, 

the new business card of the trade fair town

The modern Messe Stadion – as does the “Haus

fish from Lake Constance, delicious cheese, fine liquors, even

Bregenz to hearty knights’ meals and entertaining knights’ 

games at the Hohenems Castle. The ambiance in the Otten 

Gravour in Hohenems, a former industrial hall, is extraordinary.

Deuring-Schlössle in Bregenz. The restaurant is among the 

best in all of Austria. 

Music and dance 

The Casino in Bregenz on the banks of Lake Constance, the 

modern event hall of the Otten Gravour in Hohenems and the 

Angelika Hoffmann Centre in Schwarzenberg, one of the best 

concert halls in Europe, are ideal for a combination of conferences

Conferencing on Lake Constance? That, too, is possible. In an 

especially elegant setting: On the historical paddle steamer 

Hohentwiel, where one can enjoy meetings on magical cruises,

jazz or classical tunes. The Angelika Kauffmann Centre in 

Schwarzenberg in the Bregenzerwald Forest is surrounding by

Time Travel in the Renaissance Palace Hohenems 

The Renaissance palace in Hohenems looks back on a successful 

history. Already the knights and noblemen of past

Welcome on board the royal Württemberg steam ship 

"Hohentwiel"! 

Built by Escher Wyss & Cie., the "Hohentwiel" was put into 

operation in 1913. The elegant ship attracted just as much 

attention as the modern steam engine, which made the 

"Hohentwiel" the fastest ship on Lake Constance. 

Because of its luxurious furnishings the ship was used for 

representation journeys of the royal house of Württemberg. 

After nearly 30 years in retirement, it was laboriously repaired 

true to the original from 1986-1990 and has been in operation 

again since May 1990. Today the "Hohentwiel" shows its old 

spirit: as the best restored steam ship in Europe, as trade 

literature writes. 

Experience a journey on the "Hohentwiel" in the classical 

style. Enjoy maritime flair on deck, the distinguished elegance 

in the parlors and the fascination of the powerful steam 

engine. The scenic beauty of the landscape surrounding Lake 

Constance, the exquisite ambiance and the outstanding 

gastronomy make the journey into an unforgettable event. 

Altogether the "Hohentwiel" can accommodate 350 seats, 

170 under deck (125 seats at tables). 130 further seats in the

Possibly the nicest event location in Vorarlberg, it is also one 

of the most diverse. The most varied events are hosted here: 

e.g. the Schubertiade, congresses, conferences, theatre 

performances and concerts. It is the ideal setting for private 

festivities, smaller celebrations or balls as well. 

The hall, which is fitted with light wood, can be divided. The 

stage can be optically separated from the hall as well. Thanks

renowned masterminds participated in designing the

EXCURSION TIPS 


RAPPENLOCH GORGE 

Near Dornbirn. One of the most spectacular gorges of 

the Eastern Alps. From the locality Guetle you can 

hike uphill to the summit of the ravine – partly over 

wooden stairs, footbridges and even through a tunnel – 

in approximately 30 minutes. 

Located at the entrance to the Rappenloch Gorge, the 

largest Rolls-Royce Museum of the world features 

numerous automobiles of famous royal and noble 

houses. 

FELDKIRCH SCHATTENBURG CASTLE 

The Schattenburg castle, built by Hugo I. of Montfort 

around 1200, grants insight into the world of the early 

16th century still today. The gothic castle chapel is 

artfully decorated with frescos. The former rooms of 

the bailiwick administration accommodate numerous 

works of art by national and international artists. 

In the baronial hall events can be held for up to 200 

persons. 

SILVRETTA-HIGH ALPINE ROAD 

The Silvretta-High alpine road is considered one of the 

most beautiful panoramic routes of the Alps. It is 22.3 

km long and leads from Partenen in the Montafon in 

30 breathtaking turns to the 2.032 m high Bielerhöhe 

(toll road). 

On the Bielerhoehe: Restaurants and the possibility to 

drive around the lake by motorboat. 

LINDAU (GER) 

The dreamy small town on the Bavarian banks of Lake 

Constance. Stroll through the alleys of the old town, 

past the city hall with its multicolored facade and the 

affectionately restored half-timbered houses.

SÄNTIS (CH) 

The Säntis is 2.502 m high, the highest mountain in 

eastern Switzerland. The Säntis suspension railway 

takes visitors to its summit all year round.
