<strong>Camp</strong> DescriptionsMeredith - Inter-Lakes Elementary SchoolAug. 5-9 Fee- $150*Grades 5-8Hours- M & F 9:00am-12:00 pmT, W, TH 9:00am - 2:00pmMake Your Writing Come Alive!If you like to write and you enjoy using technology, this is the summer camp for you! Atthis camp, you are guided in the writing process to produce a final piece. You can choose tomake your piece into a movie by narrating your writing and adding in photos and videos toillustrate it or you can turn your story into a video game using an easy-to-learn computerprogram. This camp requires extra time for you to publish your story using technology, soTuesday through Thursday you’ll need to bring a bagged lunch. *This camp runs anadditional 6 hours, so therefore an additional $25.00 has already been added to the fee.Patty Browher enjoys mixing writing with the arts and technology. This year she hasfacilitated several writing workshops for children at the Meredith Public Library andrecently hosted a Family Writing Night at Inter-Lakes Elementary School where she teachesfifth grade.Katelyn Browher currently teaches students in 6th-8th grades in Germantown, Maryland.She recently lived in Romania as a Fulbright Scholar. She especially likes to write abouttraveling and adventures. With her students, she likes to make writing fun by creatinggames and collaborative stories!Laconia- Woodland Heights School LaconiaJuly 29 - Aug. 2 Fee- $125Grades 3-5Hours- 9:00am-12:00pmHats Off to You, You’re A WriterWriters will discover the sheer pleasure of creating fun characters for their stories byusing a variety of props such as hats and costumes that will spark ideas for individual andgroup writing pieces. Indoor and outdoor explorations will be combined with the study ofthe literary devices of expert children’s authors to jumpstart our writing.Patricia Browher is a fifth-grade teacher at Inter-Lakes Elementary School. We ask questions and observe. Writers will use their keensenses to observe and explore wonders of nature. Bring your imagination, your curiosity,and creative energies to explore stories of our summer wanderings. We will create journalsand collect writing ideas that spark a writer’s imagination. As we explore nature, we willfill our notebooks with ideas, stories, poems, songs, and pieces of our lives.Serving SizesNancy Bernard is a reading specialist at Hollis Primary School. She enjoys her afterschool writing club where students share stories from their heart.<strong>Plymouth</strong>- PSU <strong>Camp</strong>usJuly 15 - 19 Fee- $550Grades 9-12Residential ProgramYoung Writers InstituteThe purpose of this program is to create a community of writers to share in the art of writing.Together we will read as writers and explore genres of writing, including poetry, prose andmemoir. Participants will partake in writing activities that will help strengthen their craftthrough quick writes, prompts, revision exercises and conferencing with both instructors andpeers. Young writers will have the opportunity to experience collaborative work withmembers of the Stories and More, Nature Writing camp, as well as, The NWP SummerInstitute for teachers. Students will stay in a PSU dormitory supervised by programcounselors and participate in evening activities. Activities may include: ice skating, movienights, trips to downtown and hikes/walks.Amanda Leslie is a NWPNH fellow and Colby Sawyer College writing instructor and has amasters degree in the teaching of writing from PSU.Karen Roduta is a reading teacher at Greater Lowell Technical High School, where she isalso involved in the school’s interdisciplinary Literacy Action Team.“Writing need not begin and end at the classroom door.”-NWP“Writing is an act of faith, not a trick of grammar.”-E.B.
