CVM TM -12Monitoring ModuleProduct SpecificationsApplication . . .Electric Heat Tracing MonitoringMonitors up to 12 CircuitsThe CVM-12 is a microprocessor-based multipoint moduledeveloped specifically for cost-effective heat tracing monitoring. The 12-circuit module monitors loss of voltage ateither the circuit breaker or the end of a heat tracing circuit(when using parallel circuitry heating cables equipped with athird continuity monitoring wire). The module can, as an alternativeto voltage monitoring, be outfitted with optionalcurrent sensing transformers to detect loss of current toeach heat tracing circuit. As a modular unit, the CVM-12 is typically located within anenclosure suitable for the application. Since multiple modulescan be installed in a common enclosure, the CVM-12 isideally suited to provide cost-effective monitoring for ambienttemperature-controlled power distribution panels controllinglarge numbers of freeze protection heat tracingcircuits.Ratings/Specifications . . .Monitoring capacity ........................... 12 heat tracing circuitsSupply voltage ...................... 120/240 Vac (field switchable)Voltage sensing range ................................... 110 to 575 VacPower consumption ................................................. 12 wattsOperating ambient ......................................... -40°F to 158°F(-40°C to 70°C)Maximum storage ambient ............................... 185°F (85°C)Data retention ....................................... nonvolatile EEPROMVoltage range .................................................. 70 to 300 VacDimensions (H x W x D) .................. 12.375" x 6.75" x 3.56"(314 x 171 x 90 mm)Remote alarm output ............ CVM TM -12Monitoring ModuleMonitoring Methods . . .Heat tracing circuits can be monitored through the circuitbreaker, heat tracing circuit current or by parallel circuit continuitymonitoring.Circuit Breaker Monitoring:The CVM-12 can continuouslymonitor the status of voltageto each heat tracing circuit. Itis ideally suited to monitor thestatus of ground-fault branchcircuit breakers. Any damageto the heating cable (or powersupply wiring that feeds thecircuit) which permits groundleakage current to trip theEPD breaker will signal analarm condition.Current Loss Monitoring:The integrity of constantwattage parallel or seriesheating cables andpower-limiting parallelheating cables can bemonitored by checkingthe magnitude of thecurrent in the circuitusing the optional CT-60current sensor. If a 25%loss in current occurs, the CVM-12 will signalan alarm condition.Parallel Circuit ContinuityMonitoring: When used witha parallel resistance heatingcable which includes a thirdwire for continuity monitoring, the CVM-12 assures thatvoltage is being continuouslysupplied along the entirelength of the heating cable.Should the heating cable becut or damaged when wiredin this configuration, theCVM-12 will signal an alarmcondition.Enclosures . . .Certifications/Approvals . . .Product SpecificationsThe CVM-12 monitoring module must be located in an enclosuresuitable for the application. Thermon offers enclosures tomeet a variety of environments as part of a HeatChek ® controland monitoring unit. These HeatChek control and monitoringunits may be configured with or without power distribution. Anarray of optional accessories and configurations are available tomeet specific project requirements.CVM-12 mounted in a NEMA 4 painted steel enclosureWhen housed in a NEMA 4 or 4X enclosure, the CVM-12 isapproved for use in ordinary (nonclassified) areas as an industrialcontrol panel.Form TEP0065-0904 © Thermon Manufacturing Co.Printed in U.S.A.
